Not classic Bell X1, but well worth a listen
If you're expecting instant classics in the form of Tongue or Flame, say, you might be best prepared to relinquish expectations. A slight departure in sound here: for the most part the strident electronic acoustic duality works well; but there's times when it's over-padded with the former (if you're hankering for the early drum sounds and less electro filler after a few listens, you might not be alone). But it grows, and nicely so; even if the past heights of unforgettably catchy song-writing appear to be scaled less frequently than past masterpieces. Maybe it's just not that kind of long-player.Velcro, Haloumi and Sugar High is a welcome return to top form, however, although they're on the short side. Hey Anna and Amsterdam Says make for a strange beginning and end; just not quite resonating in the beguiling way I suspect was first imagined; although where Hey Anna teases you with a puzzling intro of Garageband demo-esque trickery at first, it does take shape - Amsterdam is, quite simply, a drab ending.Everything in-between is worth serious consideration. It might be a stretch to say it's Bell X1 at their absolute finest but it's far from a soulless coup.

Is their best album?
Is this their best album - No - but it is the bravest recording Bell X1 have done to date? Yes, Ok I am a fan and I as such I was longing to hear this new album - was it worth the wait, well yes not because it is their greatest album but because it is such a departure of what has gone before and as such the future of this great band is both exciting and filled with anticapation of what is too come next- I am listening to the album as I write this review and I am suprised that a review has not been written already. I am suprised there has not been one, so to those who love Bell X1 don't be disappointed, to those that have never heard of Bell X1 listen and enjoy as their current is intreasting, their past is great and their future is secured as this album is both inspired and brave, I wait with great expection to the next chapter that is Bell X1.

New Album
Bloodless Coup is quite a radical departure for Bell X1.It is an album that repays repeated listening and after 3 or 4 times the essence of the music really comes through.Highly recommended but be prepared to give it time and you will be rewarded with a fabulous album. As I write the chorus of'Sugar High' is swimming round my brain!

Give it a chance, well worth it
On first listening this may not strike you as a classic album, but repeated listening reveals the true greatness of the songs. Velcro, 4 Minute Mile and Sugar High are my personal favs.

Far from bell-ix
Sometimes, when I listen to it, it's as if my face is being massaged by tiny pixies from underneath my skin. I'd imagine they probably would've got in via the ears (it being a cd and all), and though I was concerned about this at first, it seems to be a very common occurrence for most people who listen to this album. Never listen while operating mouthwash.
