Antifungal foot powders containing miconazole have undergone a dramatic change in recent years. Now that court cases have awarded settlements to women who used "baby powders" that contained talc and who developed ovarian cancer, most if not all similar powders have gone from a talc base to a corn starch base. Desenex is one of these. Personally, as a male, I preferred the talc based powders since they were smoother. I was not concerned about the possible carcinogenic effect of the talc. The main problem with corn starch based powders is that if one uses iodine while using such a powder, the corn starch in the powder will turn black on the skin. However, compared to another popular foot powder that now also contains corn starch, Desenex, I have found, causes less problem in this regard. Perhaps the percentage of corn starch in Desenex is not as high as it is in that other foot powder brand. However, in spite of this, Desenex and other similar foot powders still do contain miconazole, the chemical agent that is effective against foot and skin fungal and yeast infection. (Check the label before you buy to be sure that the powder you buy contains miconazole; some foot powders do not.) Also, I am used to buying Desenex in its 3 oz. size. I tried this 1.5 oz size just to see how I liked it. Since I use Desenex every day and even several times per day, I found that the 1.5 oz size can doesn't last very long. Thus, I prefer the 3 oz. size.
