Stunned by Scripture: How the Bible Made Me Catholic

This is an outstanding book of John B’s journey. I’ve lent my copy out after reading it speaking to my bible class about it. It is very centering and encouraging in the key points of the Catholic beliefs

As a life long Catholic married to a non-Catholic, this book helped me not only better understand my faith but how to articulate it to others. It was simple, understandable and easy to read and understand.

As a life-long Lutheran, I feel this is one of the most important books I've ever read. It has changed my life. I can't recommend it highly enough!!

He’s an amazing author and you truly feel like he’s having a conversation with you or as if your listening to a great homily! I’ve watched many of his talks on YouTube and I wish I could hear him speak live! He brings these topics to life and it isn’t presented in a dry “text book” fashion…any of his books are great but this is a great starter read for anyone who wants to depend their catholic faith of a curious Protestant! ✝️🇺🇸

I have to be honest and say that Dr. Bergsma was pivotal in my conversion from Presbyterianism to Catholicism. Thank you for that, brother. This book was excellent; it immediately removed all the caricatures you often hear about the Catholic Church. It was an amazing steppingstone for me, and today, my family and I are actively pursuing the Catholic faith, we are coming home. Thank you, Dr. Bergsma, for your excellent work.

The author gives a good scriptural basis for Catholic doctrine and practice as opposed to those of Protestants. It should be a help to those who need to defend the Catholic faith from those who hold to Protestant error.I tend to prefer books that go more deeply into scripture than does this short read. However, for this book's purpose it strikes the right the balance between the amount of scriptural detail and the explanations the accompany those details.Lookin' good!

Best book to send to anyone who thinks the Catholic church isn't a Bible based church. Heck the bible is a Catholic book

I grew up in a very scripture only, faith only and grace only environment. Converting to Byzantine Catholic has taken nearly ten years of letting scripture sink in from a slightly different angle. I too have been stunned by scripture (mostly the bits I never underlined).If I had read this book ten years ago when I was still a Protestant, it would have at least deepened my love for my Catholic brothers and sisters. Maybe it would have even kept me from dismissing certain elements of their faith as ignorant or unbiblical.I am extremely grateful for Dr. Bergsma’s very readable but detailed telling of how he was again and again forced to revisit scripture passages that he thought he understood, only to find that he had indeed missed important and essential meanings. This is my story as well, though told way better than I could have. Thanks Dr. Bergsma!
