PlayStation 5 Standard (Slim)

The PlayStation 5 Slim has been a fantastic addition to my gaming setup. Coming from the standard PS4, the difference in performance is noticeable right away. Games load incredibly fast, and the visuals are stunning. I’ve been playing games like Demon’s Souls and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and the level of detail and smooth frame rates are impressive. The compact design of the Slim version is a big plus for me, as it fits much better in my entertainment centre compared to the larger original model. The new Dual Sense controller deserves special mention. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers genuinely add to the immersion in games, making even simple actions like firing a gun or walking through different terrains feel more realistic. Backwards compatibility is another huge benefit—I’ve been able to replay a lot of my old PS4 games without any issues. That being said, the storage space is still somewhat limited if you have a large digital library, so I had to consider upgrading the SSD. But overall, the PS5 Slim is a brilliant console, providing top-tier performance in a more compact form. Highly recommended for both new and returning PlayStation gamers.

Cannot recommend this console enough. Bought it as a replacement to my PS4 which was being more and more repaired so I decided to treat myself to an upgrade. Very happy I did. No stranger to the 5 as my daughter bought one upon release. This slim edition runs the same, jut built differently. More maintenance friendly for example. The performance on this is stunning. well worth the money. Highly recommended.

I actually lost my appetite for gaming, until I finally retired my first gen PS4. I never felt the need to upgrade because I thought the graphics was realistic enough. I took advantage of the sale of the PS5, with the benefit of paying over 5 months. I’m glad I took the plunge for this offer, which turned out to only be available for two days! I’ve had this console for almost a year now(Nov 2024), but I play it every day. All I can say is that the graphics is outstanding and because I invested in a top spec tv, the ray tracing and running games at 60 and 120 fps is a game changer. I’m glad I bought the disc version, but tbh the convenience of buying games directly from the Sonys website makes all the difference in the world. You get faster loading times, less clutter and the ability to play games remotely without the worry of having the required game in the consoles disc drive. Although it comes with slightly more storage than the original PS5 (1Tb), the best games are huge in size, which will limit the amount of games you can play. To solve this issue, I suggest you get an NVMe M.2 expansion card. Because of the necessity to purchase storage that meets the PS5’s strict requirements, I recommend getting a very fast one, that exceeds the minimum speed specifications. I purchased the 2Tb Samsung 990 Pro with heatsink, then later installed an external WD_Black P10 6Tb Hdd to store my PS4 games on as well as a backup storage option for PS5 games. I think I should have bought a 6Tb external SSD, which would have improved the PS4 games loading times. Please note you cannot play PS5 games on external devices, including SSD’s or have two external drives at the same time, so choose your options wisely. In hindsight I actually wished I bought a 4Tb NVMe M2 SSD, because I’m already out of disk space with only 58 PS5 games on the internal storage and 101 games on the external HDD. I also have some backup PS5 games on the HDD and to top that off I have five physical PS5 games, as well as my collection of my favourite PS4 games that I still own. I’m guessing the reader is questioning why I have so many games? The reason is very simple, most PS5 games retail at £69.99, however the advantage of having bigger internal storage will become clear. Every month Sony will have sales for up to 80% off! This means you can pick up games for £13.99, and some games (usually PS4) for as little as £2.99. Think about that for a moment, you can have a huge collection, that doesn’t take up any additional space, the discs can’t get damaged or lost, and even if you choose to delete the game, it’s will always be available from Sony’s Servers, and the titles will still be displayed in your library. I always felt that the PS5 was too big and ugly. It was also only available in white and was waiting for the black model to come to market, but it never did. It’s grown on me and I actually think it looks beautiful. I have always stuck with the PlayStation from the beginning and I don’t think I will ever change. This is a great investment, which doubles up as a blue Ray player and can be used for all your family and friends. The speed of switching games is instant as well as the loading times. The Christmas holidays will keep everyone entertained, I guarantee that. Happy shopping.

Excellent bit of kit

Absolutely love the new PS5 Slim! It’s noticeably smaller and lighter than the original but still delivers the same incredible performance and graphics. The setup was quick, the interface feels smooth, and games load almost instantly thanks to the SSD. It runs quietly and fits perfectly into my TV setup. The updated design looks modern and premium. A fantastic upgrade for anyone new to PlayStation or looking to save some space without sacrificing power.

Arrived quickly and securely packaged. Looks to be in new condition, was described as mint condition. So no problems there. Control was also in new condition. All cables supplied as advertised. Charging cable needs to be used with a charger as the controller and ps5 have C type hdmi. Not a problem as ac to C hmi cables are readily available at low cost. Bought this ps5 for my grandsons to use when visiting. No problems down loading there games from there accounts on to this machine.

In Returnal, for example, the tension in the triggers when charging weapons or the subtle vibrations when walking on different surfaces make the experience incredibly tactile and engaging. The controller’s ergonomic design ensures comfort even during marathon gaming sessions, though its battery life could still use a slight improvement. One of the Slim Edition’s most underrated upgrades is its improved cooling system. Even during intense gaming sessions, the console remains remarkably quiet, a stark contrast to the occasional fan noise of the original model. This makes it easier to focus on the game without distractions. That said, the PS5 Slim isn’t without its flaws. The internal storage, while slightly larger than the original, still feels insufficient given the size of modern games. I found myself frequently managing storage or investing in an external SSD, which adds to the overall cost. Additionally, while the Slim Edition is more affordable than the original, it’s still a significant investment, especially when factoring in the price of accessories and games. Another minor gripe is the lack of major innovation in the user interface. While the PS5’s UI is sleek and intuitive, it feels very similar to the PS4’s, and I was hoping for more customization options or new features to match the console’s cutting-edge hardware. Despite these small drawbacks, the PlayStation 5 Standard Slim Edition has been a joy to use. Its combination of power, design, and immersive features makes it a worthy upgrade for any gamer. Whether you’re a fan of single-player adventures, competitive multiplayer, or even VR (with the upcoming PSVR 2), the PS5 Slim delivers an unparalleled experience. The Playstation is excellent, can’t say the same for the controller as they wear out very quickly. Design. Of course, the controller is a very good experience but poor quality.
