Very nice set of tools for building. I never really thought that they would help that much as I have a really good selection of screwdrivers anyway but wow, just wow.

The right tools for the kits

I take this kit with me to race meets and it performs well. Tools cover pretty much all I need to repair following the inevitable crashes and breakages sustained during an evening of club racing. Not mega cheap, but a comprehensive enough tamiya toolkit

This is a really nice, compact and good quality set of tools that are perfect for Tamiya RC model assembly and maintenance and contain essential drivers for screws, wheel nuts and Allen keys. The slip-on grip handle makes applying greater torque easier and adds comfort. Tamiya RC models are assembled largely with crosshead screws and for a while, I wondered why my standard Philips head screwdrivers didn't seem to fit the Tamiya screws that well. I determined that the screws were actually JIS and work best with the correct driver profile, which is exactly what these are. I consider them an investment that makes assembly and maintenance easier and you are less likely to have to deal with any wrecked screw heads from ill-fitting drivers.

I was hesitant to get this since being outside of the US, it's quite expensive for what it seems to be. However, it is worth every cent. These are really high quality tools and the kit shines in 4 main areas: fit, magnetic tips, the handle and upgrades/rebuilds Fit: As mentioned in other reviews, Tamiya uses Japanese Industrial Standard screws which are slightly different than regular Philips screws, but significant enough that you're always on the edge of stripping a screw, and since these are JIS, you don't have that problem. It sits secure and makes it much easier, and quicker, to fit everything. Magnetic tips: This may seem like a minor thing, since magnetic tips are quite common, but the magnets on these tools are quite strong, meaning it can easily pick up a screw and place it in position, or lift it out when unscrewing. This is especially handy for tight and awkward spaces...and if you have big hands. Handle: While the handle gives a great grip, for me it's the feedback it gives. If you use a moderate grip, you can feel when the screw is tightened just enough. The handle sort of slips slightly. Maybe it's just me, but I've found this incredibly useful once you get the feel for it. Upgrades/Rebuilds: It's one thing to get the screws in with a regular Philips screwdriver, it's a nerve-wracking story to get them out again when you (inevitably) want to do some upgrades, or a rebuild. Since the fit is so secure, it makes it super easy to remove the screws and lift them out (see comment above). Honestly, if you can afford it, get this set, you will NOT regret it. And if you can't afford it, save up for it, it really is worth it.
