Classic Steak & Kidney Pie 425G

This was my first Fray Bentos streak and kidney pie. The crust was fine, and the meat was sparse, but it tasted great. That gravy was so good that I took a spoon and spooned out what was left. Now, I’ve made steak and kidney pie myself in the past (last time was probably 20 years ago) and it was delicious, but if someone would tell me how to make the gravy taste like that it would not take two decades for me to try again!

Just a great reminder of a childhood favorite meal. Wouldn’t complain if they added more filling of steak and kidney.

My mother was British and used to make us delicious steak and kidney pie in a massive pot. I still remember breaking through that delicious crust and spooning that filling of steak and kidneys with delicious and savory gravy. I remember the smell and taste. This isn’t close! Bland and small portioned with little meat and kidneys. The tin arrived dented beyond belief, but it wasn’t open so I cooked it as is. Regardless, it wasn’t worth the expense. I think I’ll cook it myself.

Meat conntent did not meet my expectation. Pork product was included. Very mushy after cooked. I purchase two of these and had to throw both items away. Poor value for money.

I've always been a fan of these and do buy them often. One thing only prevents me from giving five stars and that is that there is less meat and more gravy than there was. The flavour is still spot on and the pastry as always rises high and delicious. They are still worth getting.

For those who complain about the quality of the product. You need to remember that this is a mass produced pie, not a hand made pie, made from scratch that you buy from you local butchers. Of course it wont be busting at the seams with filling, no matter matter what they advertise on the tin. What this is, is a trip down memory lane for the most part. I did find that there was a little more filling, but nothing to write home about. I've been purchasing these pies on and of for years since I am unable to find these in Los Angeles. They taste as good as I remember when I had them as a kid. My only complaint is the price tag. $20.00 for one pie is an absolute rip off, hence I only buy them when I want to treat myself to crappy British food from my childhood.

Was not impressed on how it was packaged in the blue and white Amazon package, obviously it was miss handled, and because of this, the vacuum seal didn’t hold up. The pie itself was a huge letdown, as there was only a dessert spoonful of meat, it consisted mostly of gravy. Still tasted as I remembered.

Lovely quality Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney pies...About the best pie you can buy. They are absolutely beautiful..so tasty and the pastry is so light..Lots of meat..The perfect pie...I love them.. Great value for money and very highly recommended.

nice pie good flavour gravy put one t spoon of carolina hot sauce in and mixed it up well good. used to eat these 30years ago might get them again. burp

Great taste and great value for money!

Enough for two. Useful to keep in cupboard (not a fridge) for an emergency meal. I feel it neeeds a bit more meat content, but cooked in a Air Fryer per instructions is tasty enough with sufficient gravy. For a quick, trouble-free meal, serve this with a green vegetable. Potatoes or Pasta not required.

Fray Bentos pies they are really tasty and delicious, minced and onion, chicken and mushroom, and steak and kindney.
