The Collection

A great Boney M. collection
As a budget release this compilation is truly amazing.Usually the Boney M. compilations released by Sony Music contain edits (shortened versions), but that's not the case here. Here's a compilation including 3 CD's and not one edit at all! Only original single-, LP- and maxi-versions.Out of the 36 tracks on the compilation, 17 tracks are previously unreleased CD."The Collection" is including material from the original Boney M. period 1976 - 1986.CD 1 (The seventies) contains 2 previously unreleased versions: the single-versions of "Rasputin" and "Bahama Mama".CD 2 (The eighties) contains 7 previously unreleased versions: "Daddy Cool (Anniversary Recording '86)", "Malaika", "Boonoonoonoos", "Going Back West", "Consuela Biaz", "Bang Bang Lulu" and "Somewhere In The World".CD 3 (The best 12" versions) with the maxi-versions contains 8 previously unreleased versions out of 8 tracks on the CD.At the time of this release the original master for "Ribbons Of Blue" was not found. Therefore it has been included as the 1993-version (also known as "More Gold" version). It's still the full length version, but with some extra hi-hats/drum-beats.Personally I would have preferred "Dreadlock Holiday" included as the original album version with Reggie Tsiboe on lead and not the so called Top-Deck version with Frank Farian on lead. But that's also the only thing I would have liked to see different on this compilation. But when thinking of that it's a budget release I can't put a finger on the compilation at all. This is how I like to see a Boney M. compilation compiled. Thanks to the compiler of this Boney M. compilation: Frank Eberlein. There's no doubt about he has put a lot of hard work into this compilation. The Boney M. catalogue is a very complex one and Frank has shown he knows how to deal with it.

hit and miss
a collection of all Boney M's hits (except "Belfast" ??) on 3 CDs - some good and some duds. A real mixed bunch. The re-mix of Daddy Cool is a joke; nice to hear Boonoonoonoos again. Easily the best track for me is an 8 minute-long version of My Friend Jack
