Q: how short is it when broken down? how short is the longest piece? Wonder if it fits in a 30" luggage.

Thanks for your inquiry. This nice and sturdy aluminum pole spear has 3 sections. The long 2 section is 2.2 ft ; the short 1 section is 1.6 ft. The length when broken down is 2.2 ft (26.5 inches) All in the bag measurement is 27". *The thread is 6 mm in diameter*. ---Scuba Choice customer service

Q: Can I replace 5 prong with 3 prong? Will any prong fit?

Yes but you will need a 6mm female to 8mm male adapter, you can find them on amazon for a couple dollars. The 5 prong is about 6" and the 3 prong paralyzer is about 12" plus 1" for the adapter. Your overall length ends up being close 7 ft

Q: Could you travel with it over a plane ? would you have to tell them that u have a spear ?

Spear guns are specifically prohibited in carry-on bags. On the TSA web site, they are listed under prohibited sports goods, which include baseball bats, ski poles, and bows and arrows. You can carry them in your checked bag.

Q: Can you use this as a Hawaiian sling?

It effectively is. Unless you’re asking if you can add a wooden grip for this to slide through. You could add that and you should be fine.
