All ten episodes of the Icelandic crime drama. When a corpse is washed-up in the remote town of Seyðisfjörður, and discovered by passengers on an incoming ferry from Denmark, Chief of Police Andri Olafssun (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) leads the investigation to solve the case. He quickly deduces the killer must be on board the ferry and forbids the 300 passengers from disembarking until he can make further enquiries. But with a severe snowstorm imminent Andri and his small team must work quickly and without any backup to solve the mystery while the trapped townspeople and tourists eagerly await their verdict.

SUPERB
Pity that police force of three, about to face the greatest challenges of their lives! The small remote Icelandic town cut off by blizzards; a ferry stranded in its port; a recently dismembered body proof of a killer close by. Far worse is to come - shock revelations, more deaths (two of them spectacular), even fears of an avalanche.Highly atmospheric Nordic Noir this. No faking of the cold - sometimes conditions so atrocious, it was hard to get cast and crew to where they should be.Everything impresses. All characters convince, they multi-dimensional - good ones with flaws, certain miscreants with redeeming features (admittedly a few past redemption). Genuine tension, real sense of danger, everything culminating in a worthy climax.Subtitles no problem, especially as most cast say little anyway.Ten episodes. A bonus tells of difficulties encountered when filming, this the most expensive film project ever mounted in Iceland. Happily it has proved worthwhile, the production acclaimed in so many countries.Watching episodes in quick succession, as ever, increases impact - at the end viewers thus able to appreciate all the more certain comments made at the very start.

very good/excellent police drama mini-series set in Iceland
This is a very good/excellent police drama- mini-series set in a small town in Iceland. It is quite long but holds one's attention from beginning to end. One needs to try and remember the names of the characters which is difficult for those not familiar with Icelandic names which also seem to bear little resemblance to the way they are pronounced! If one doesn't remember the characters by their names, it can become quite difficult to follow! Excellent acting and a quite good storyline! I remember a reviewer of "Holocaust" suggesting having plenty of paper tissues ready! In this case I would suggest- unless one lives in California- a warm rug and a hot water bottle as the constant scenes of snow and ice made me feel really cold!! The series is very sophisticated in both the filming and direction.

Chilling thriller - in more ways than one!
A thrilling series, well acted and frightening at times. The scenery and weather were stunning, and the appearance of an enormous cruise ship looked totally out of place in this small fishing port - but very effective. As the plot unfolds, various characters reveal their hidden past. The three police officers did a sterling job faced with some serious crimes. As with all the Nordic Noir offerings, the cast consist of " ordinary " everyday people, and no Botox, coiffured ladies or whitened teeth. The subtitles were essential, but easy to follow. I find it difficult to believe that the weather is worse in Harrogate. ( see another review ). I thought that the two daughters needed a good scolding for their bullying behaviour. As with all good crime series, there were a few loose ends, but most of the baddies were caught. I shall now order series two.

Brilliant thriller for those who think they don't like sub-titled programmes
A brilliant who-dunnit for those who think they don’t like sub-titled programmes. All the petty jealousies and secrets of a small Icelandic town are played out in a bleak winter landscape as the inhabitants are trapped by a blizzard. Additionally a Danish ferry, holding its own secrets, is unable to leave. And into the mix drifts a dead body…..I can honestly say there wasn’t a dull moment or an extraneous character in the entire series. Whilst Olafur Olafsson rightly drew all the praise for his dogged police chief, for me the star of the show was Ilmur Kristjansdottir as the determined, and only, policewoman in town.Obviously the programme is in Icelandic, with English subtitles (except for those moments when various nationalities start speaking together in English and for a few confused seconds you think you can suddenly speak Icelandic!), but I found you became so engrossed in the story you forget the subtitles.

Very good!
I didn't like it at first but my husband did; a bit hard to follow. Jumped a bit from scene to scene. The surnames were, of course, foreign to us, and that made it a bit more difficult to follow 'who's who'. Once we got that handled, it was most intriguing and if weren't for bad luck, they wouldn't have any at all. Brilliant photography and well written. Quite interesting to hear from the producer at the end explaining how long it took to produce this series - something like 3+ years. Didn't know anything about Iceland other than they went bankrupt in 2008 so this was most educational as well.Excellent series and we hope there will be more. The producer said he hoped it would make it to the US and we're Southern Californians so it did & it was well received!

The series for those who have never been in Iceland (or so it would seem)
Okay, I admit I am biased. The series itself is not bad, maybe a solid four stars police procedural. Just a bit lukewarm (a semi-intentional pun). However what really ruined it for me was the fake location. Why on earth it was necessary, I have no idea. Can't help but wonder how people in Iceland in general and in real Seydisfjordur in particular see it all.As someone who once came to visit Iceland on board the "Norrona" (you can spot the name of the ferry if you are attentive enough) I was more than excited about the idea of "re-visiting" Seydisfjordur (my apologies for the lack of appropriate fonts, ditto for the "Norrona"). Sadly Seydisfjordur (which is across the whole Iceland from Reykjavik, hence Reykjavik police being in charge there looks somewhat unlikely) apparently was not good enough for the filmmakers. And so the town loses it's name and gets just too many locations from a completely different town(s). Surely, no one could send the ferry into a different port, but all the rest... How sad.Well, I warned I was biased about this. Maybe someone who never was there (and never had a chance to fall in love with the place) would not mind. For this particular disappointed viewer the fake place just sent the believability of the whole series down the drain.By the way, 16 years ago the "Norrona" was calling in Iceland only from April to September (October, maybe). Maybe she does come also in winter now, I don't know and... I do not care. It could as well be a spaceship.

Brrr...

Trapped - An Icelandic Crime Drama
Trapped is an amazing show - with drama and suspense. It is a unique crime drama not only because it is an Icelandic crime drama with a beautiful (and cold) location but because the crime story that Trapped tells has not been told before, which makes watching it a first-time experience. If you are a Region 1 viewer (United States) this DVD will not play on it - I suggest investing in a multi-region DVD player if you buy a lot of foreign films and shows, because this show is definitely worth the expense. The characters are multi-faceted and they face unique challenges throughout the television show, which are exacerbated due to a cruise incoming to their city, death/s, unhappy people, and the environment; the environment and the cold weather is a character itself. If you are looking for a once-in-a-lifetime crime drama with a fascinating story, well-rounded characters, and a marvelous environment I would highly recommended this series, especially if you are an avid watcher of crime dramas and/or foreign shows.
