Life's Dream

First saw the story as PDF online (I saved it on a usb) but it was multiple parts and I was afraid of losing a part or two in translation. so I was glad to be able to get it in print.

Having encountered Chakats a couple of years ago while collaborating on a 3D modeling project, I got interested in Doove's Chakat universe. When his name got hits in an Amazon search I decided to order this book even though the material is also on the Chakat's Den web page. (I just prefer to read a book instead of a browser.)The story is simple: boy meets girl, falls in love, marries girl, lives happily ever after. For certain values of "girl". Which makes the story charming if you like the idea of interspecies romance. (Okay, let's not beat around the bush -- interspecies wild sex.)The characters are reasonably well presented and moderately complex, the SF "universe" is consistent from the author's initial conditions (spelled out in an introductory page) and well crafted and the story is formatted as episodes of "journal entry and elaboration" (which works for me better than as a continuous narrative and probably reflects the fact that the novel was developed as a series of scenes posted to a web page).My only complaint is that it's got the usual defect of a first novel: a whole series of problems which get introduced and then resolved within a page or two. There's little dramatic tension and the happy ending is inevitable. The narrative is completely linear and straightforward. Which would be fine in a young-adult category but this book is certainly not something I'd give to anybody under 17.That said, I'm going to go outside the topic and say that his other novels "More Terrible than Chains" and "Transformations" are much better-written, so he is learning his craft.

If you want to read a story about true love where not even death can separate them. Then I suggest that you read Life's Dream. By the time I finished reading this book I just wanted to cry.

I bought this book a few years back and still today is one of my favorite. I've easily re-read this book a dozen of time even though I know the whole story from beginning to the end. Its a nice touch of life.

This may be contended but in my opinion there are a few things that books must do. They must introduce their characters in such a way that you not only like them but you have to grow with them and understand them. A good story will make such that when good things happen you are happy when bad you are sad. In part you become a part of the story. The story must also have a bit of mystery to it, so that you have reason to continue reading. This is what hooks the reader, now that they know the characters they must know what happens to them. What will occur in their life, and how will the solve the latest wrench in the works that the author just put in their way. The story must also have a satisfying ending. It must leave with closure, situations handled or at least explained, and the characters resolved to whatever fate it is that they end at. This need not always be the end that we want or a happy ending but it simply must be a complete ending to be satisfying to the reader.What was said above was needed to understand when I say this was a beautiful and excellent story. I will admit that at the beginning some pieces felt a bit .. rushed but as it turns out this was necessary and fit well once you continue reading. There were points where I laughed, and points where I cringed, and even points where I needed a tissue from crying. I had difficulty putting the book down most of the time as I wanted to know what was going to happen next. This book meets everything I would want, it has the beginning the middle and the end, and all points in between. It was a great and wholesome story to read, it didn't need extreme adventure or excitement, it was a life, two lives really and the wonderful things that can happen. I don't know if that was the authors intent but to me it was a beautiful story that I intend to read again. It truly is a Life's Dream.

The ending ripped my heart out. I want to rate more stars.

I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive at first when I saw the disclaimer about the strong adult themes contained in the book as I had the pre-determination that such disclaimers meant that it was heavy in sexual content to the verge of being beyond what I could tolerate. I must admit however, that I was pleasantly surprised. Doove's ability to draw out a wonderful captivating story had me from the first time I read the sample. I was so drawn into the world of Karl & Pandora that I bought the full version within minutes of finishing the sample and I was certainly not disappointed. As a writer myself I find his method of storytelling both enjoyable and inspiring. The many times where he let suspense build, albeit in a manner that was consistent with his characters, had me on the edge of my seat more than once. The mixture of emotions that the characters showed made them much easier to relate to than some of the books I have read in the past. The adult themes though present were not as prevalent as the tale of these two lover's journey together. If you are looking for an amazing book that will enthrall you and leave you with the feeling you could just slip right into the world it envisions, this book will surely not disappoint. I look forward to reading more of Doove's work as well as getting the physical versions of the books to add to my library and I recommend others do the same as well.

A human running from a bad relationship meets a foxtaur female who has been lonely all her life. Together, the two settle down and work to make their dream of a life happen. It's a lovely romance, and truly a story of life's dream.

I have bought both a hard copy and an ebook. It is absolutely my favourite book of all time. The author really struck a deep chord with me, I hope to meet him in person one day to thank him for writing such a warm and touching novel. I would go as far as saying (and I'm talking to you now Mr Doove) you have changed my life for the better, no words can ever attempt to repay you. Thank you.
