Simple and Most Effective Option for Rodent Control
Great product. At our cabin over the past decade, I had used mouse baits/stations and traditional mouse traps with moderate success. This roller trap has been much more effective. Set it once and multiple trappings happen without reset. Also, unlike bait stations, it doesn't introduce poisons into the wild food chain as I simple apply peanut butter to the roller. Very happy with the product.

Ordered 3, received 2 metal and 1 PCV version.
I ordered three of these a few years ago, I've used them one at a time in an outdoor setting. I've only used one at a time on my back porch, and over time from being outdoors they start to get corrosion on them which allows the mice to maintain grip and avoid the plunge, so I changed them as this happened. The first 2 that I used were made of aluminum and spun nice and freely when first set up, the last one had been sitting unused until recently, when I opened the package I found that it was a different version of the product which uses a PCV tube instead of aluminum. I set it up anyway, and immediately notices the PVC does not spin freely and has more weight to it. Having had set up indoors in my garage for a week, with fresh mouse dropping all around, my suspicion that this one won't work have been proved true, as the the mice have been able to eat the bait multiple times without being caught.Shame that they changed the material and didn't change their listing. If would be asking for a refund on this 3rd version if it was not ordered so long ago. Seems you can't trust anything sold on Amazon any longer.

Good for mice, not for rats. Drat.
We have chickens, so we have chicken feed. We have chicken feed so we have rats. I've seen this trap on YouTube, and it seemed to work very well so was quite enthusiastic to get it. After not catching anything for three days I finally managed to see what was wrong.Rats are too big. They can keep their back paws safely on the edge while they happily lick my peanut butter off the roller. I've heard since from a neighbor that it catches the mice he had trouble with, but for rats it's been a waste of peanut butter. Guess I'll go back to sitting in the dark with my air rifle.

Well built, good value, but didn’t work.
I gave it four stars because it is a well built product but no rats were caught. I managed to catch multiple rats with other traps, however. Some of the bait was missing but I believe the rat(s) noticed the instability, and therefore did not go any further. Rats are neophobic and this trap didn’t work because of that fact.

Little WD-40 Makes this thing a Mice Muncher!
I didn't think it would work as well as it did. The first 2 nights I didn't catch anything even though I put peanut butter on the rubber ring. However, the following night after cleaning it well, I sprayed it with WD-40 inside and out except for a thin ribbon for peanut butter but did not use the rubber ring. Next morning, WHAM!!! Caught a 4 juveniles and a pregnant female. Not sure if that's all of em but this is easier than the stickies. Don't believe the folks who say stickies do not work, they are the best, I caught 15 total this month with stickies. Unless your a bleeding heart who wants to send them back into the wild that is.However, cost effectiveness and ease of clean up is better with bucket when your battling a bunch of these little terrors. You can fill your bucket with water or if your not going to around for awhile, use antifreeze so the bodies don't stink and attract bigger badder animals. If your a softie, you can place some soft material in the bottom. Then put them in your vehicle, drive about 5 miles and let them go into someone else's house.

Yes I'm reviewing before using
Chinsy quality. The tube rotates on a threaded rod, it's not even a smooth surface on a smooth surface or a bushing, it's just plastic end caps with a hole for threaded rod. I had naively thought it would be maybe a bearing or at least a nice bushing. I still have to assemble which looks to be difficult and try it. If the two nuts are used to secure to the bucket on each end then the tube will be free to slide (not that it will on this threaded rod). The little disk for the center was wrapped around the tube and all curled up now. Box was ripped. You get it. Not great. I'm a real customer not some review spammer given free crap.

Seems to work great
I'm a mechanic so I was/am skeptical of the all threaded rod not letting the roller turn properly, it just doesn't seem right. But, it does indeed roll when I tape a U.S. penny to the top. Having trained a few people in the mechanical field, I see how this can be pretty easily installed wrong, so I included here the way that I did it that lets the taped penny roll it every time. I'll be placing this where my dad's bird pen tends to draw the mouse or mice.I drilled 1/4 inch(~6.5mm) holes right above the handle holes in a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot and slid the threaded rod through the roller in place, all the way to the edge of the roller. Put 2(of 4) washers and then 1(of 4) nut in the inside of the bucket and threaded the rod through the nut until the side without hardware lifted out of the bucket so I could put the other 2 washers and another nut in place. Threaded it through the 2 nuts and both sides of the bucket until the rod was evenly spaced with a just big enough gap that it spins freely. Got the last 2 nuts and put them on the rod sticking out of each end. I then tightend 2 nuts on each side of the bucket at a time with wrenches until there was a bit of resistance from the nuts squeezing the bucket. Made sure the roller still has just enough gap to freely spin inside the 4 washers and added some vegetable oil on each end and spun it up.
