Chief of detectives Robert T. Ironside is shot down by a sniper's bullet whilst vacationing at a remote cabin. Surviving the assassination attempt, Ironside is left paralysed from the waist down. Confined to a wheelchair, he becomes the head of his own special police unit, fighting crime with intelligence and action, aided by a crack team of investigators on the streets of San Francisco. From 1967-1975, Ironside confronted the hottest issues of its time - civil rights, drugs, sexual assault and terrorism - many of which are still relevant to this day, giving television its first disabled hero.Raymond Burr, fresh from 9 years as TV's most famous lawyer, Perry Mason, shook the typecasting from his previous role and made Ironside an instant hit with audiences, running for an incredible eight years. This 8 disc set includes all 28 Season One episodes, plus the original feature length pilot which launched the series, with guest stars Harrison Ford, Bruce Lee, Jack Lord, Susan Saint James, David Carradine and many more.SPECIAL FEATURES: Original feature-length pilot episode Viewing Notes Booklet

Ironside in 1960s San Fransisco Series 1
Marvellous, and currently as cheap as you can obtain the DVDs anywhere, what a wonderful Series. This is absolutely classic 1960s San Fransisco, the cars, the fashion, the hippys, the bay area, Chinatown, the streetcars, Fisherman's Wharf, the Golden Gate bridge, nothing has ever changed, has it? Coupled with the original pilot this starts the series off nicely, an introduction to the members of the team and how they came to work alongside Chief Ironside and why he was shot, although, it got a little confusing as by the time we had reached halfway through the second disk he was now a Consultant and his badge was old, however, he manages to solve all of the crimes in his own inimitable fashion, some of the storylines might be construed as cheesy by today's standards, but, at the time it was cutting edge Police work, and he was the best at it. I'm amazed at the crisp sharpness of the reproduction from the tapes onto DVD as though the film was only shot last week, and even though it's the old projected format of 4:3 it doesn't detract from what we used to watch on Saturday nights on our old televisions, wonderful stuff, I can't wait to obtain the other series DVD's and make a complete library, definately recommended for fans of the wheelchair sleuth and his team of talented colleagues, nostalgia in absolute bucketloads, fantastic.

Television at its best
This is television at its best and it is now available in this compact case providing hours and hours of quality viewing.I had never seen the very first episode of Ironside before, so it was enlightening to find out why Ironside was in a wheelchair and also why his wheelchair was covered in a green fabric. If you like Perry Mason you will probably like Ironside as well, although, this time Raymond Burr works within the policeforce and has lost some of his good manners, the essence of the man is the same. I could not help comparing Ironside with House, played by Hugh Laurie, they are both grumpy but still liked and respected by their teams.I hope there will be more series of Ironside and Perry Mason available in this handy format.

I want the whole 8 season DVD
Many old TV series date quickly. But Ironside is exception. I bought this last year and enjoy watshing so many times since. It is fun to see how the chief, ironside solve the cases. But there is more to it. I like to see the warm relationship of those 4 good people, Ironside, Mark, Eve and Ed.They often made me stop and think. And I like that. I am so looking forward to the Volume 2 released in UK and the rest of the whole series soon. By the way, I could not wait so that I bought the region free whole 8 season "Ironside". It was a mistake. The picture and sound were both bad. I do not recommend it.

I remember watching Ironside when I was younger with my mum and most recently in the past few years when it was shown on one of the terrestrial channels, it's a good telly programme and the older type shows are sometimes more enjoyable than the rubbish shown nowadays, so when having seen this while it is on a special offer I've bought it for my mum as one of her Christmas presents, so I know it will be a nice surprise when she opens it. The dvd has 28 episodes and the feature length pilot, following Chief Inspector Ironside and his team as they go in pursuit of criminals, each episode revolves around different cases, it's great value for the price and it was packaged well when delivered and arrived day after dispatch.

Nice old style tv
This is the first time I've watched this series - I prefer old tv shows and hate the way modern shows seem to feel that they need to pack in as much violence and gore as possible to be a success. This is tv from a simpler time - with it's own problems - sexism and racism are pretty rife in these old shows and that in itself is a valuable lesson. That said, I really enjoyed this first season of Iron side - it's no all about the detective work but also a window into the characters -their morals, the time they're living in etc. It's not fast paced whodunnit stuff - but it's very good nonetheless.
