Okay content, bad recording quality
Considering the cost of this CD, the recording quality is quite bad - both the actual volume/background sound, and the quality of the readers. They are obviously not professional actors, which is fine for reading a story, but when you are trying to teach Latin it helps to have convincing, realistic voices!

Arrived in a broken case - well done!

Arrived in working order
The CD case arrived a bit banged up but the CD works, mostly. I think the CD was very sligthly damaged but I was able to use it. Now, regarding the content itself it lives up to its expectation.

Bad quality recording
The sound is terrible, like an amateur home recording. The voices have strong English accents and the speech is monotonous and nothing like acting out a fun dialogue! Minimus is a great course and I'm using it with my son. The CD is an absolute must for beginners and we have to use use it, whether we like it or not. Considering it is a beginner's level, the quality of the recording may not be that important but for the price it's sold at and considering the overall price of the course material, this is truly appalling. I know this course is quite popular so perhaps CUP could afford to invest into a professional recording.

Poor Quality CD, unintelligable - could be recorded better.
Having received both the CD and book, I was extremely unhappy with the quality of the CD. It's a cast comprising of both adults and children. How it was recorded is unknown, but at times the children are too quiet and unintelligable, occasionally the adults vocalise where they cannot be understood either. If this was recorded better it would be a good addition to the book (i.e. 1 character doing all voices (Such as the Harry Potter audios), however in its current form it's not. Whilst it follows the stories in the book, it's not of quality to justify purchase. All I can say - is can the authors re-release it ? as I would buy again if the quality was better. I can't fault the book and say to people, buy it... But you "may" need a tutor to cover off the verbal Latin.

Useless without the book which you buy seperately.
Unfortunately this is completely useless without the book. This is hardly latin for beginners...

Okay, I am 32 years old. But, I always felt cheated out of learning Latin in school, and I want to expose my daughter to the structure and sounds of Latin early, so I bought this delightful beginner's course. The textbook shows examples of conversation in Latin through cartoon drawings of Roman citizens living in Great Britain almost 2000 years ago. Minimus, a little brown mouse, is our tour guide through lessons in Roman culture and history, as well as our instructor in the finer points of Latin. There is a light touch throughout the course, befitting one designed for 7-10 year olds, but much appreciated by this older learner, too. The accompanying CD is a must, though, as there is no handy pronunciation guide with the book. Listening to the CD is great, and I have played it while driving around town on errands. If you've read through the text, you can follow the CD even without following the text at the same time -- and how fun to hear a "dead" language come alive!

This is a great addition to the text book. The animal voices are about the most adorable thing I've ever heard. The voice actors also have British accents and I am one of those Americans who find that charming. I would not recommend the series without purchasing the cd because it really helps one with the pronunciation.

I am very excited to reach my four year old Latin, we have ordered the audio cd that goes along with the book to ensure proper pronunciation. Check out the minimus website for lots of free resources that go along with the book! The woman who created the Minimus character also offers online courses , lots to find on the website!
