Item thrown over the hedge
Occupant was in waiting to receive the package, instead of knocking on the door, the courier chose to throw the item over hedge where it fell behind my wheelie bin, having walked passed the front door to gain access to the hedge at the rear. Given the damp conditions it was attracting some slugs and sodden (luckily the tripod was not fragile or at risk of water damaged!). So 1 star for service delivery. Received a further package that day where the courier managed to knock on the door and hand the items to me, thus packaging undamaged. This is a great little tripod, and well made. It is very sturdy and stable, and pans very smoothly. With a weight limit of 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs) it easily supports my OM-1 camera and a 12-100mm or my 90mm lens. Contrary to some descriptions, the tripod will rotate from the horizontal (landscape) to the vertical (portrait) position, it is tightened in position by the turning the pan arm handle. By turning the camera I can take some close overhead shots. The legs only have one position which, when opened, give an operating height of 21 cm (8.25 inches) and with the legs and centre column fully extended up to 27 cm (10.5 inches). When collapsed the tripod folds down to 24 cm (9.5 inches). This is handy as the tripod just about fits in the pocket of my fleece jacket so it is easy to took away when travelling with just my OM Tough TG-7 camera, they make a great pairing. The tripod works equally as well with a mobile phone with the necessary adaptor. I was primarily looking for something smaller but still sturdy. My Alta Pro 263AT is my main tripod, but it can be a bit cumbersome for some table top type close up and macro shots. This is ideal as it can get in places my larger tripod can't. It gets fairly low to capture overhead close up shots at 17.5 cm (3 inches) from the table top with my 12-100mm lens, but optically the flowers and fungi can it can be too close to focus, but great for my 90mm macro lens. With my TG-7 it gets me up to 13 cm (5 inches) close to the subject, with its x4 zoom I can get some very good detailed shots. It is a shame that the head or at least the quick shoe plate is not interchangeable. My Alta Pro 236AT uses the QS-39 quick shoe plate, so I have to keep removing the quick plate from my OM-1 camera to fit the camera on this tripod, which is a pain and a bit of a faff to say the least, especially when there is a cold wind blowing or when wearing gloves. It is for this latter point I have given it 4 stars, otherwise it would be 5 stars with no reservations. If the shoe plate becomes changeable in an updated version I would re-buy.

Not too long ago, we were looking into products that could help us further out content here at MacSources. One of the items we came up with was a short, table top tripod. Part of the reason for this was so that our teleprompter (R810-10) could sit closer to us when we do video review. We started doing our research and found that the Vanguard VS-82 was exactly what we were looking for. For starters, the VS-82 can hold up to 5.5 lbs and the teleprompter – our main reason for this search – only weighs 5 pounds. Secondly, the tripod swivels 360º and has a 2-way pan head. The versatility of a professional-grade full-size tripod packaged in a smaller, lightweight product was what we were looking for and we found it in the Vanguard VS-82. First Impressions Upon its arrival, we were instantly surprised at its weight. Even though we knew before ordering it that it weighs just under 1 pound, it was still a bit shocking considering how well it is made. It is made primarily from aluminum and comes equipped with a standard tripod mount. This will work with most modern cameras and can be replaced if lost. Because it’s a table top tripod, it only measures 9 7/8” high when it’s fully extended. The nice thing about it is that when its legs are fully extended, they have a nice, wide stance and includes non-slip feet. It’s very secure and doesn’t wobble at all if it’s on a flat surface. Utility When we moved on to the testing of the tripod, we used several types of cameras and tripod-mountable devices. We used everything from a full size Canon DSLR to our iPad Teleprompter to an iPhone 6 (mountable with a tripod adapter) and found that the Vanguard VS-82 was a very useful, sturdy tripod. The most impressive thing to me was the teleprompter. Even though it’s lightweight in its own rite, it’s still an awkward shape and a bit front heavy. I thought for sure that the tripod would succumb to the teleprompter’s irregular measurements and tip forward. But, this little stand surprised me. It held strong and kept the teleprompter nice and steady. Conclusions The Vanguard VS-82 is definitely worth buying for any photographer or videographer who wants to up their game and add to their equipment arsenal. The tripod has an MSRP of $29.99 and is completely worth the price. "This product was received at a free or discounted price in exchange for my review. I wanted this to hold my LabRadar chronograph and their branded one was very expensive and priced in $US. This one works perfectly and is very sturdy. It holds the chronograph unit perfectly and it has no tendency to tip. The legs do extend slightly (if you need that) but I was impressed with its stability and quality. It was an excellent choice.
