PPI Machine Design and Materials Six-Minute Problems – Comprehensive Practice for the NCEES PE Mechanical Machine Design & Materials Exam

Useful resource
I actually found this book really useful for studying the Mechanical PE MDM exam. With the help of this book, I passed first time.Once you have exhausted the NCEES Practice exam, this is a useful addition to challenge yourself. It is in the old "depth and breadth" format but the questions are still relevant to the CBT format. There are all the classic slider crank, weld, vibration, pressure vessel, pulley, pendulum, gear, bearing questions, etc. They seem to get progressively harder the further you go in each section. I believe them to be harder than the real exam, so a great way to over prepare! One thing to note, this isn't a huge textbook - there are 19 questions in the Breadth section and 66 problems in the Depth section, but I found it enough to top up areas that I needed more practice with just before the real exam.

Practice exam not meant for CBT PE Exam
There are good content questions in this practice exam and it is good practice for trying to complete problems in 6 minutes. However, roughly 40%+ of the questions reference materials that is not included in the NCEES Reference Handbook that is supplied for the test. Since the only reference material you can utilize is the NCEES Reference Handbook, having to look at Shigley's or the Machinery Handbook to complete these practice problems was not good practice for the exam. This is for the Mechanical PE Exam.

Almost identical to the book for Mechanical Systems & Materials.
I don't usually write reviews on Amazon but for this I will - as a disclaimer for people interested in this booklet. This book is identical to the Mechanical Systems and Materials book - with the exception of THREE problems.Six-Minute Solutions for Mechanical PE Exam Mechanical Systems and Materials Problems, 2nd Ed2 of those 3 problems are from the morning/general section. If you don't have this book OR the Mech. Systems -> buy this book.If you have the Mech Systems book and hoping to get 85, or even 40, brand new questions to help you on the test - spend your $90 elsewhere. They won't send you a return label either.

Not for computer based testing
If you want to spend your time studying for the computer based testing this is not the book for you. Most of the problems require information not included in the PE Mechanical Reference Handbook.
