Awesome Golden Glow on my MBP
Well after reading the bad reviews I was a little hesitant in getting it. I had it in my cart for some time before committing to this item and I am really glad that I did. The gold looks great. When I saw this online I couldn't really understand how this attached to the screen. After receiving the item the double sided adhesive is clear and works well with keeping the screen on. I have not had a problem with the screen coming off and I have not had any problems with it moving. It stays well against the screen. As for what I don't like about but I can live with is the dents. I think after it closes on the computer the keys or certain parts of the computer cause small but insignificant dents. Because of the color and reflection any small dents are very noticeable. Other than that I think its an awesome product. I would definitely recommend this item. My MacBook Pro has a burt orange cover and the filter gives it a custom look. The filter sometimes reflects a golden glow over the computer and it makes it look pretty cool. I have not had any problems with the brightness or view of the Retina Display. Still looks great. I hope this was helpful. I think you will be happy with it.

ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4i
Edit: Two days later I'm deducting one star for further issues with the adhesive. It's not strong enough to hold the heavy filter, so it has fallen off twice in two days. This necessitated the need to wrap Scotch tape around the display on a new laptop.I'm writing this one with the above headline so Google will find it to help those searching for a privacy filter to fit the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 4i. They market this one as being for the Apple, and it is extremely hard to find a gold version of the 3M privacy filter to fit the X1.First, I have never used the black privacy filter, but I know that the gold version is very good, and I have yet to see any reviews that didn't pick the gold over the black. The problem is that these gold ones are getting hard to find. After going through several that didn't fit, this is the closest I have found. It would be nice if it was maybe 1/4" or even an 1/8" higher to to make it easier to get the adhesive low enough as not to get in the way of the taskbar, but this one does work, and I did get the adhesive low enough that it didn't interfere. I applied mine with the top as high as it would go for the camera cutout considerations. It would be nice if 3M would improve the adhesive so you could see exactly where the edge is, but aside from that, these are the best privacy filters I have found.

What You Can and Cannot Expect
What the Other Person Sees - The product drastically reduces brightness and to a slight extent focus and therefore readability to the SIDES. It makes it almost impossible to read text for the person off to the side. They can see the text on the screen, but can't make it out. Additionally, they'd have to make a fool out of themselves to make it out, i.e. since it's no longer possible to glance over and make things out, they'd have to stare at your screen just to TRY and make something out. If you want to surf porn, well it's not for you :-), they'll still make out what you've got on the screen. But if you want to feel as though people can't read what you've got up, whether it's personal notes or Facebook, this does the trick. You can also reduce your brightness slightly to make it all the more unrecognizable off to the side.Who it's Going to Effect - the product stops the people to your SIDES from reading your screen, for instance in a meeting room or on a plane. It does NOT stop someone who is standing behind and looking directly over you from reading your screen.Attachment - I have no need nor desire to attach it permanently so I can't comment on what came with it to do that. My laptop is a MacBook Retina and there is a very slight protruding bezel. The model I ordered fits perfectly and the bezel holds it in place. I just take it right off when done. I was envisioning something like the thin screens that protect smart phones, which create an air tight bond with the screen. Thankfully it's nothing like that, it's a heavy piece of plastic that just sits on the screen and you remove it when done. If you intend to use it temporarily like I do, you'll probably want to make sure your laptop bezel protrudes a a 1/32 of an inch or so. I suspect all do, but am not sure.Visual Performance - it's outstanding. The main thing it does is reduce brightness and affect color purity. If you're sitting in a public meeting and your goal is to have privacy I'm going to guess you don't care whether your colors are off a hair.Comments on 1-Star Reviews - Most of the poor reviews seem to focus on 2 issues:1. The products doesn't work and you can see the screen off to the side. I suppose one of the reasons for this complaint is the ads themselves, which set ridiculous expectations. Fortunately I'm not naive and don't trust marketing and didn't think the product was going to change the rules of physics. The product stops people from reading what's on your screen. OF COURSE people can still make out objects on your screen, lol. FYI the product marketing pics that show what appears to be a blank orange screen is exactly what it looks like - when your laptop is OFF! When it's on objects can be made out, but as mentioned above text becomes unreadable.2. "Bubbles" between the screen. Maybe mine if different but I don't have a clue what this is about. But again, in my case I'm not permanently affixing it, I lay it against the screen, it lays perfectly, and I take it off when done. No "bubbles" for me.

Used it daily until the laptop got retired
This was perfect for working on the train. I used it daily until the laptop was retired for a newer model.A shame as I haven't been able to find something of similar quality for the new model (Macbook Pro)

Wer also einen schwarzen Filter will sollte das entsprechende schwarze Modell bestellen.

It's a piece of plastic...but it works!
As someone that doesn't generally leave feedback on Amazon I thought I had to leave one for this product as when I ordered there were many inconsistent reviews (not just on Amazon). I've focused on four main areas for my review, these being Quality, Fit, Usage and Cost.Quality: As a piece of plastic goes it's thick enough not to bend or break easily. Some reviews have said it's as thick as a credit card, but it's about half as thick (see photo). I've yet to take the filter off and on repeatedly, but it comes with a plastic wallet to store it in when not in use. It also comes with a lint cloth and the adhesive strips to attach to the screen.Fit: I was especially impressed with the snug fit to my MacBook Pro Retina 13" (late 2012), one of the reasons I have a Mac is the quality, aesthetics and the workmanship, and spoiling this in any way was not an option. Fitting the adhesive strips was straight forward enough, even so there's a handy video on YouTube which I used to be on the safe side!Usage: I'm using the Gold side up which not only is easy to see the screen (40-50% brightness) for normal use but looks great when viewing from an angle more than 30-40 degrees. Again, there are many reviews that state it's not `private' enough, but on 50% brightness it obscures sufficiently if someone was sat next to you on a train/coffee shop. I've uploaded a couple of photos that show the filter straight on with my screen at 50% brightness, at an angle of 45 degrees and 30 degrees and the final picture showing the thickness of the filter to a credit card.Cost: Let's be honest, for a piece of plastic it is expensive, but it's a good quality piece of plastic that looks good (on a MacBook Pro) and works as intended.I hope this is useful to anyone that is unsure (as I was) when trying to find a filter for your MacBook Pro.

Good product, but expensive
I'm a consultant working in an open office and often have sensitive information on screen. People come up to me all the time, and I felt that I needed to add a little bit of privacy assurance, for my own sanity if nothing else. This is expensive, but it is well tooled, and sits about 1mm inside the natural lip of the screen. I had to order replacement stickies to attach it to my screen because they didn't stick well the first time (there's a 3M website for ordering replacements for free, and it took about 5 days including a weekend to deliver). The second set, stuck to the filter this time, went on fine. and the privacy filter is doing its job nicely. Recommend, but wish it was about half the price. Seems a bit much for what comes in the pack.** Strangely my first edited review is not here. Originally I docked this a star because the filter reflects a lot of light from sources behind you, so it creates a great deal of glare and reflections. that would have made it 4 stars. But I'm back again to move it down to 3 stars, because the sticky strips lasted about 3 weeks before I had to replace them (they lost their stickiness altogether). The replacemetns are free and come quickly, but I can see this regular upkeep becoming irksome over time. Also, the filter has picked up a few scratches, presumably from dirt on the cleaning cloth, as I'm always careful when I take it off the screen. Barely noticeable, but a more resilient coating at this price would be a boon, and I can see it getting more scratched with future maintenance. Finally, there is a manufacturer and product code heat-melted in to the filter - "3M GPFMR13" on the top of the filter. It doesn't obscure the screen in anyway as it sits along the bevel, but I have somehow started to find this annoying. I wanted a privacy filter, but I resent the unnecessary branding and product code.

Cool, works well, but a bit shiny
First off, this expensive for a bit of clever plastic. However, it looks pretty cool (and gets people commenting on it), and looking at it straight on is (apart from a bit of dimming - maybe 2 notches of brightness) almost exactly the same as looking at the screen. What I would say is that the surface is very, very shiny though - way more than the 'shiny' screen Mac. If there's a light on behind you, it reflects horribly, and even if there isn't, you sort of end up looking at yourself in the screen - Rather disappointing. As others have noted, the filter is effectively glued to the screen with some double-sided tape, and so is not removable. That's a shame, but not terminal in my case.If shiny and non-removable aren't too much of a problem for you then I'd recommend this filter. I suspect there are better ones around, although they're probably just plain black, and hey, if you're using a Mac on a train or in a coffee shop, you won't get noticed with one of those.
