Bachmann Trains - Snap-Fit E-Z TRACK E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE - NICKEL SILVER Rail With Grey Roadbed - N Scale Small

This is designed to work with freight cars that are about half the size of an 80 foot passenger car. People that are experiencing the bouncing of the arms need to consider this. Otherwise I recommend a tiny amount of pure silicone lube at the pivot points of the arms.

My son received this crossing gate for his N-Scale layout last week. It installed in seconds and works great. No problems with bouncy crossing gates. A word of caution in that the length of this crossing is slightly shorter than the "standard" Bachmann n-scale straight piece. In other words, if you're planning on plugging this into an existing layout, you may need to do some adjusting in other places to make it fit right (in my case, replacing a long straight piece on the other side of the layout with a shorter one where the corresponding crossing will go some day).

It is visually pleasing, but that is about as positive as the review can get. Poorly designed. First off, I ended up buying this twice. The first time, 3 parts were broken inside the box, which I assumed was due to post office handling. After returning and getting a new one, nothing in box was broken...yet. The second one I purchased is when I discovered the other flaws. The track piece is a tad bit shorter than your average ez track straight piece, and have been unable to find another piece to purchase that will make up for its sliver of a size smaller. Then, the pressure plate has 2 small clips that holds it inside the track. One of the clips broke off while inserting it into the track. It was a clean break, so I superglued the clip back on. Well, the small dot of superglue made the plate too heavy, causing it to weigh down and trigger the crossing arm on that side to only go halfway back up when the train was not on the track. The crossing arms also bounce a lot when cars pass over it, and the vibrations cause the light and "x" crossing sign at the top to fall off at times. Bottom line is, aside from its appearance, everything is terrible. If I could unbuy this, I would.

Smaller than I thought but it worked for my Speed Racer lava disaster resin project. I would buy from this dealer again.

The Bachmann Trains - Snap-Fit E-Z TRACK E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE is a mechanical crossing gate. The weight of the train going through the crossing pushes down on a strip that is between the tracks and causes the crossing gates to close. The Bachmann Trains - Snap-Fit E-Z TRACK E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE serves the purpose, though it is not that realistic as the train is on the crossing before the gates come down. In reality, the gates would close some time prior to the arrival of the train. Kato has such a crossing which has sensors that you can place as needed to create that realism. Obviously, the Kato crossing is electrically operated. For what it is, the Bachmann Trains - Snap-Fit E-Z TRACK E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE is a nice addition to the layout. Quality of the crossing gate is mediocre. The E-Z track connection does not allow (on my crossing gate) for the track to seat completely on one end. I believe that is due to the track being too short on the crossing. Since the Bachmann Trains - Snap-Fit E-Z TRACK E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE is a mechanical operation and depends on the weight of the engine and other rolling stock, the gates may bounce up and down or not fully lower if the rolling stock is not heavy enough. I found that a slow moving train makes it more difficult for the gates to close fully. Some momentum in addition to the weight is needed to fully close the gates. I would not recommend the Bachmann Trains - Snap-Fit E-Z TRACK E-Z TRACK CROSSING GATE for the serious railroader. For beginners like myself, it serves a need.

I was somewhat disappointed with this for the Dollar amount I was hoping It would be a bit more solid. the arms seemed to be flimsy one side worked the other would lift a bit but not completely up. As far as assembly It was simple just putting the signs In place. It looked great when I had It inline. But I had a incident and removed It. I will buy another to replace It.

This was smaller than I thought it would be; however it is the perfect size for the track that goes with it. My grandson loved it!
