3M 2170 W-6 Outdoor Insulation Kit, Clear, 2-Windows

Such a simple, yet effective, solution to draughty windows. Very easy to fit. Had air leaking through large front window causing living room to be cold. Instantly fixed on attaching this. Very impressed and £100s cheaper than buying a new windows

I applied it indoors, although it states "Outdoor use only". Fitting was easier than expected. The double sided tape worked perfectly. I was worried about the initial wrinkly look but when I applied the heater it looked clear like glass. I first tried a hair drier but found that a fan heater on 1 kw worked perfectly and easily. You cannot tell the window is insulated. The cold downdraught from the window has stopped. Fantastic value. Highly recommended.

Its not the usual standard from 3M - The clear plastic has manufacturing marks throughout. The double sided tape used for fixing the plastic is definitely sticky, but the big issue i found is peeling the top off once the tape is fixed to the window frame. Tricky. That said, the overall finish is ok. Allow an hr per window.

I have used this type of product for several years with varying degrees of success. Although more expensive, the 3M product has a thicker film which is easier to handle and better double sided tape. Once fixed, it shrinks well and removes even quite substantial areas of wrinkled film. In future I will pay more and get more.

This is advertised as an outdoor insulation kit but the material is so thin it can't possibly be, and it does not want to shrink, and the packaging and included instruction sheet makes no mention of it being shrink film. i was very disappointed when I opened the pack. I'm surprised 3M would have such a product???

Easy to fit. Makes a difference in winter.

It is tricky to install but does make a difference once you get it all sorted.

Easy to install after I've seen some tutorials on YouTube as long as u take your time . I applied it nice and smooth used the hair dryer and wrinkles free very happy at the moment when i installed it . But after few days the plastic film detached from the double sided tape ... i think the double side tape it's not strong enough or it might be more suitable for the interior although it's advertised for external use .

Managed to fit the 3m to my exterior windows (as supposed to be for) ok, however after a few cold nights it is starting to mis shape & now looks awful. Worked well at the beginning. I would try the d-c-fix window film as that make is great. Made in Europe too.

Oct 2019: Purchased this product to cover large screens for older, larger condo insulated windows (30" x 50"). Was a little surprised that these were not heat the shrink type that I've used before for interiors. But the product was easy to install (took me about 15 minutes per screen), was easily able to stretch out wrinkles, and no problems unfolding / peeling the plastic open. There was actually enough double sided tape for 3 of my windows, plastic covered two. I've got some larger windows still to do, had to buy one pack for each of those, using the plastic sideways. I did my best to secure the tape to window (pressed around the screen frame with my thumb several times) and similarly the plastic once it was affixed to the tape. If it holds up, should do a good job creating a second vapor barrier and cutting down on drafts. May 2020: Removed the plastic this afternoon. First, all six plastic sheets were intact after a New England winter. Second, plastic removal was beyond simple - the plastic peeled away from the tape easily. The tape needed a little encouragement but by and large came off the aluminum frame in one piece and with no sticky residue. I'm a little shocked at how much of a non-issue removal was. I'm a fan for life!

L’articolo è di buona qualità. Si tratta di un rotolo di nastro biadesivo e un telo trasparente (tipo pellicola trasparente da cucina ma molto più resistente). L’ho installato su una vecchia finestra con vetro singolo e infissi di legno, sia all’esterno che all’interno, creando due camere di isolamento extra (per il lato interno ho dovuto comprare un nuovo rotolino di biadesivo, di un’altra marca ma sostanzialmente identico). Considerando la semplicità e economicità dell’intervento, la differenza è incredibile. La temperatura dell’aria vicinino alla finestra é aumentata di 2-3 gradi, e gli spifferi di aria gelida sono meno percettibili. Ovviamente l’aspetto estetico ne risente. Per noi non è un problema perché si tratta di una finestra che comunque non apriamo mai e ha sempre le tendine chiuse. Ottimo rapporto qualità/prezzo!

I had the indoor/internal version of this product which works very well in eleminating condensation of my aluminium windows. There are some window frames that are not working for internal application (ie, sliding windows). I bought this outdoor version and applied it on the external side of the window frame. Unfortunately condensation still occurs. The film unable to keep the glass pane temperature warm enough to prevent condensation. On this scenario, I found bubble wrap applied on the internal side works better.
