Coffee? Black no sugar, thanks.
We used to have a Siemens bean to cup coffee machine that was good until it started putting water all over our kitchen worktop rather than in a mug, which was slightly inconvenient. When Siemens asked for £400 to fix the machine we declined their service and used a French Press instead. After owning a machine for several years the press was completely unsatisfactory so when we saw the LatteGo significantly reduced on a Black Friday sale we bought one. That is my key takeaway here. I would not pay full price for the machine knowing it is unlikely to last more than the five years our Siemens machine lasted, but it was well worth the £440 I think I paid for it. Latte's, Cafe Crema, Cappuccinos, Flat whites and pretty much any other type of coffee are all made superbly well. Very easy to program and use, very quick at making a really good coffee. The only downside is the rather flimsy and precarious milk froth dispenser. Other than that, top product. Update! After owning the coffee machine for a few months the milk frother makes sense. With our old Siemens unit the milk was dispensed through a complicated nozzle that was also where the coffee came out. This meant the machine needed regular cleaning. The Philips machine is far simpler, and so is the care routine. Keeping it clean is simple, but more importantly so is putting it back together.

An excellent coffee machine, perfect no matter what time of day it is
The selection of coffee types you can choose and for the ones you can create yourself, it's an amazing coffee machine. It's fantastic and we'd highly recommend this machine to all, in fact one of our friends has already purchased one. So easy to use, including programming your own types of coffee. We've had espresso, flat white, latte, americano, etc and they are perfect. We have set the grind level at 12, as we love strong coffee, with no issues. Putting an extra shot gives you a wake up call you need on a morning. Cleaning is simple, as is taking it apart. Yes it is slightly noisy, but that is understandable, it's grinding coffee beans and heating milk. We use full fat milk and coffee beans that have a rating of 9 and above. The temperature is just what you need and the milk frothing is fantastic. Great water capacity, so you can get at least 8 cups of a latte or if you just have espresso sizes, then it would last you all day for 2 people. Excellent value for money and it looks great in any kitchen. The only thing I have, is that inside the box there was not a tube of grease. It states that one is supplied, but there is nothing.

Absolutely love it, but
After having this machine for a week, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It is a bit loud but I keep mine in the cupboard. We got cafe Nero beans to try it with and the coffee really tastes and looks like from a coffee shop! Love it! I would recommend getting some cheap beans to set the grinder right, because even tho the producer says the medium setting is good enough, we did adjust it slightly, and you should only do it while the machine is grinding. We binned 10 first coffees before we set it up properly, but that's was our choice. Also, the first coffee machine had to be sent back as it was leaking inside. Now, the user manual does not require checking the inside brewing compartment, it's not in the set up, and the YouTube video that we watched before we order it, said there's no need to touch anything BUT the part was not put inside properly. After checking the part with Amazon technician we wiggle a bit more with it and the leak has stopped. The next machine we got we knew we needed to take the compartment out and put it in again with a click sound to avoid the same thing happening. So if your waste bin is full of water, I would just take the brewing part out and put it in again properly. Do a few coffees to give the machine time to catch up to new adjustments before you give up. I think it's absolutely worth the effort as it's great quality coffee machine, easy to clean, that makes great selection of coffees.

Overall, a good machine despite drinks sizes being maximum 10oz
Ordered this despite reading some reviews saying the drink isn't hot (I have two commercial bean to cup machines and am used to hearing customers moan about temperatures) so thought, the ones moaning are probably the same people to expect coffee to be boiling like from a kettle. This machine on it's hot setting is the correct temperature, a Caffè latte, cappuccino etc should be between 55°c and 65°c, then the coffee isn't burned, then milk not scorched, and you can drink it straight away, and actually taste it. This machine does that. The first few drinks weren't quite right and the coffee grounds pucks were soggy. About 10 grinds in, the pucks were solid and drier, the coffee excellent. Factory settings produce a great coffee, customising to produce a bigger cup also yielded great results. My only minor gripe, on maximum volumes for espresso, water milk, you can't quite get a 12oz drink, more like 10oz. It's a small machine, so the grounds bin and drip tray need emptying very often, not a bad thing, stops you being lazy and leaving the grounds in for days and letting them rot. Being used to commercial machines, I'm pleased with the build quality, many domestics feel cheap, the milk jug fitment seemed a bit flimsy but, it's actually fairly solid once in place. Very pleased with it and my concerns about temperature were as I thought, people wanting a boiling coffee. If you want your drink too hot, don't buy this, buy one with a steam wand.

Makes good coffee - could be more user configurable
Bought this to replace an old, and finally broken, deLonghi with the 5500, mostly because of the comments on it being quieter than the 5400 - and because they were a similar price. I guess the main thing is that we like the coffee - but there are a few niggles. It would be nice if you could choose which of your favourite drinks appeared on the main screen. As it happens, our favourite factory-set drink is cafe au lait, which is several (seven) presses into the 'more drinks' menu (but which incidentally is on the 5400 home screen). Yes, you can re-program one of the home screen icons but the parameters are not always infinitely variable, depending on which drink style you want. And the temperature control is system wide rather than by profile - not so useful if different users prefer different temperatures. Although it advertises a 1.8L water capacity, it stops feeding when there is still about 250ml in the tank - so actually there is only just over1.5l available to use. This seems to be a common issue which means you have to fill it more frequently than you might expect, and also that about a third of your descaling solution gets wasted. The drip tray fills quite quickly even if we use an empty mug under the spouts to catch most of the rinsing water, so there must be a fair amount of overspill water coming from elsewhere into the drip tray. Beware also, that if you use a mug as described, it will hide the pop-up float in the drip tray so you might not know just how much water there is actually in there. The milk system is simpler than the previous machine but the quick clean is not totally effective. It may clean all the internal milk pathways but it doesn't fully clean the spout which ends up with bits of dried milk around it. Overall it is a good machine if you can get it for the right price.

Very good automatic machine!
I've only used the machine for a week but I can say I'm happy with it, very easy to use and clean, and it makes several types of good drinks.

Perfect all round really
Super machine. Not as loud as people have said in previous reviews. Brews coffee perfect for me and if you keep on top of the cleaning as per the Philips schedule it’s as good as any other machine. Temperature is great and the taste is sublime. I’ve only used the milk frother to make hot milk for hot chocolates which are great as I drink coffee black. Well worth the investment into my first bean to cup machine.

Bean amazing coffee. Goldfish-level memory.
Let’s start with the important part. This machine makes excellent coffee. Genuinely. Espresso, cappuccino, iced drinks, milk-based things with Italian-sounding names I now order confidently at home. It has been absolutely bean amazing. The drinks are plenty hot, well balanced, and consistently good. The grinder does a great job, the LatteGo system is easy to clean, and overall it feels like a proper, well-engineered bit of kit. However. This machine lives entirely in the present moment. If the bean hopper is low, the water tank needs refilling, or the milk has run out, it will let you proceed right up until the point where you are emotionally invested in the drink. At which stage it gives up, discards the effort, and expects you to start again from scratch. There is no memory. No learning. No quiet “shall we resume?” It has the emotional recall of a goldfish. You can customise drinks to avoid this, but that assumes you remembered everything first, which defeats the point of a fully automatic machine designed to make life easier before caffeine. Temperature-wise, the coffee is hot enough for normal humans, but the option to choose an even hotter variant would be a welcome addition, especially for those of us who believe coffee should remain hot until the last sip, not just the first two. Finally, the documentation. Or rather, the scavenger hunt. Between QR codes for setup, QR codes for registration, and QR codes that lead somewhere else entirely, an actual printed instruction manual would have been very welcome. Sometimes paper-free is efficient. Sometimes it’s just annoying. Four stars. Fantastic coffee, impressive features, and a machine I genuinely enjoy using. I just wish it remembered things half as well as it makes espresso.
