A young mermaid makes a deal with a sea witch to trade her beautiful voice for human legs so she can discover the world above water and impress a prince. Review: As a huge fan of the animated version, I cried like a baby first time watching - No remake is perfect, and there is always going to be things you can list out that you like or dislike, but with all the remakes that Disney has done this one was done with utmost respect to the original plot, design, and whimsical quality that brought me to love this story in the first place. The character development alone with emphasis that these are not one dimensional characters made me have so much more respect for the director and all who worked on this film. Many of the Disney remakes fall flat because they do not take into consideration what made the original animated inspirations so loved by many, and LM does a fantastic job of incorporating theater, color, music and pure Disney vibes throughout. The new additions of music did not take away from the film, only added, and the re-wording of some of the songs did not skew the meanings or disrespect the power hits that they are. Unchartered Waters and the Gravity song are some of my favorite Disney songs now of all time, along with the remastered originals. They all work with the film's theme so well. Really it all worked together cohesively to give huge fans like me another side and more of what I adored when I was a little girl. Now, is every scene and actor like the most amazing thing I have ever seen? No, and it's not the end of the world that they aren't. This is a movie about fantasy creatures, let's be real here there is a ton of liberty that could have been taken that could have ruined this film and yet they took a loved story and gave another interpretation that added more whimsy to it. When I say I cried the entire movie, I legitimately cried. But I am also a big baby because this movie isn't just any movie for me and has a special place in my heart for very personal reasons. After I saw the movie, I went home to my husband (crying I know, silly me) and was like "they didn't ruin my movie!!!" Yes he also made fun of me just like you are reading this review probably is doing as well, but I mean that's how impactful this movie was to me. That's how remakes should be! They don't have to be perfect with the perfect cast, but they still have that beautiful and magical quality that makes Disney "Disney." That's what all us Disney princesses/princes ask for when we get remakes or new films from the company, we just want to experience that spark of joy just like we did when we first experienced it. That's why there are diehard Disney people out there LOL. This movie did that for me. Obviously I'm a huge fan, 10/10. I was given an opportunity to relive the day back when I was five who fell for Ariel's charming curiosity all over again and for that I had to write this behemoth of a review because I feel it was well deserved. Review: The LIttle Mermaid, live version - Movie and book reviews are very subjective. I just have to say Wow. I am one of those people who is not fond of remakes as a general whole - especially the 'live' version of the cartoon originals. But, this one I will make an exception for. It was really fun and beautiful. They mostly stayed true to the original Disney cartoon. I was amazed that they were able to keep the 'magic' of the cartoon. Awesome cast that you will recognize easily. Honestly, this one is worth it. You can always rent first to try - but you'll buy it. It's that good! Of course, just my opinion. Lovely and well-done!
This is another well-done Disney film! The real persons and computer-generated "animations" is itself worth the watch. And Bailey's singing is both glorious and soothing, and as told the story is ultimately uplifting. If you are very attached to having your fairy-tales excluding brown-skinned people or featuring only them in non-central roles, then this is NOT the film for you. (Fortunately for you, you will still have plenty of other choices out there.) If you couldn't care less, or you feel that fairy-tales belong to anyone and everyone they speak to, you will very likely enjoy this interpretation. -- In fact fairy-tales have been crossing continents and cultures since antiquity. Authors like the Brothers Grimm openly acknowledged they were "collecting" and re-interpreting them in most cases (to suit tastes of their day). Most of us would barely recognize the oldest know Cinderella-type tales, for instance, which are recorded among the Ancient Greeks. Caribbean mermaids tales, too, have been around for a very long. Again, bottom-line: a HIGHLY enjoyable fresh-take (in more than one way) on a familiar tale.

So beautifully done, love it
What a fantastic remake. The entire movie and actors are just so beautiful. Ariel's (Halle Baily) voice is beautiful, and she looks angelic. I became teary when Jodi Benson passed the: "dinglehopper" to Halle Baily (so sweet). The choreography, new songs, cinematography, and lyrics are great. The actors were fantastic - Melissa McCarthy was great as Ursula, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and everyone was wonderful. It's my new favorite. I'm going to purchase it (ignore the racists - it was fantastic).

Excellent Movie For All Ages!!
Years ago me and my daughter, who was 3 at the time, watched the Disney animated movie hundreds of times till she was about 12, it brought us joy each time we saw it. I watched this again last night with my daughter, who is now an adult, and we both agreed that Halle Bailey was amazing and did an outstanding job as Ariel. We felt the same joy watching Bailey as Ariel capture the spirit of wanting to be human and falling in love. Want to give a special mention to Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, he is excellent as the cherished animated crab guardian who loved Ariel so much, he supported her decisions to the end. Do not believe any negative reviews from small minded people about this movie. This live action Little Mermaid film is just as beautiful as the animated version years ago and it will capture you heart to believe that true love is worth it all in the end.

Not a bad film just isn’t as magical as the cartoon.
So the movie isn’t bad. Its cute, sometimes funny, but the acting comes across as either too over the top, or the emotion isn’t quiet there. The actress for Ariel only lacks while her voice is gone, to me her emotions aren’t properly conveyed with jestures and facial expression but other than that she did a fine job. My problem with the movie is I’ve seen the original and its just got more magic for me. But for someone like my daughter who had never seen the original cartoon version she loved it! I enjoyed the life like realism they brought to so many of the scenes they converted for live action. And like I said its not a bad movie at all I just prefer the cartoon. Its almost like when you read the book before watching the movie and then the movie is a little disappointing after you’ve read the book. Id watch it again though if my daughter wanted too!

The Little Mermaid- beautifully reimagined!
I always get scared when Disney announces another live-action remake, it's either a complete hit or miss, in my opinion. But the movie was just done so beautifully, it surpassed my expectations by a long margin! You can tell the cast put their all into their role and I can't imagine anyone else playing any of them, especially Halle Bailey- she was absolutely spectacular and the songs were done amazingly- the new additions added a lot to the characters- loved to be able to see more of Eric's upbringing and personality. Scuttlebutt took a while to get used to but I love Wild Uncharted Waters and For the First Time. What I really enjoyed was the new scenes- seeing Ariel's and Eric's chemistry together- showing that even though Ariel can't speak, Eric still falls for her- for her. Jonah did amazing in his role! After seeing it in theaters, I just knew I had to buy it once it came out digitally. The bonus content is really interesting to watch, I personally love watching behind-the-scenes!
