This is apparently a common problem with this vacuum. A failure of a $500 vacuum due to a crappy 10 cent piece of plastic. I found plenty of youtube videos on how to take apart and diagnose the issue. Sure enough the trigger was cracked. I didn't want to epoxy the old trigger or buy another plastic one so when I saw this metal one, I bought it.The video they provide is handy for putting it all back together.NOTE: this repair is not particularly easy. Getting everything apart is not too bad, getting the trigger back in and properly rewired can take some patience and dexterity. Also note, once I had the vacuum apart, I discovered one of the mounting posts for the circuit board box was broken and had to be epoxied. It's not impossible, but it's more than just unscrewing a few parts. Watch the video first to make sure you have the proper tools and patience.In the end, this part saved an expensive vacuum, and the new trigger feels a lot more reliable.

Haptik ist wertig, im Gegensatz zum Original, das aus billigstem Plastik und mit Sollbruchstelle eingebaut wird.Der Einbau ist ein wenig tricky, auch für mich als Handwerker. Mit etwas Geduld, Geschick und (ganz wichtig) einem langen 8er Torx-Schraubendreher (Bit o.ä. funktioniert nicht, es gibt eine sehr ungünstig positionierte Schraube im Griff) kriegt man das hin. Die Stunde Aufwand hat sich gelohnt, der Dyson marschiert wieder einwandfrei und endlich wurde er auch mal von ganz innen gereinigt :)
