I have not tested this but I’m not certain as the adapter I have is HDMI (is not 2.1) but display port is 1.4 @144hz. So, an adapter may work.

It does. It's USB-C 3.2 , that supports video and data pass-through. The problem here is your cable. Not all USB-C cables are compatible. As long as your cable supports video and data pass-through it will work.

Q: Will it do 1440p resolution at 144hz ?
