Aqara Door and Window Sensor

Q: I already have alexa echo (4th gen) w/zigbee smart home hub built in it. is a aqara hub still be required for it to get a voice alert through alexa?

Yes, an Aqara Hub will be required. The Door and Window Sensor cannot connect to Alexa directly.

Q: Do i still need the aqara hub if i connect this with samsung smartthings?

According to the Smartthings community, they will work directly as long as you have v2. I used them to work directly with my Hubitate and they work great. I did have to get the community supported drivers from GitHub, but that was all that was needed for Hubitat. I do not see on the smartthings community that any custom drivers are needed.

Q: Can you get a voice alert through Alexa when a door is opened, for example?

I can’t get it to work either. I bought it specifically for this feature to alert me when one opens without the hub firing off an alarm every time. It’s showing the sensors aren’t supported in the Alexa app and only the hub is supported but you can’t do anything with the hub itself to get it to do this. I’m not sure how others are supposedly able to get it to work as stated.

Q: Would this work in a mailbox? (For notifications?)

Could not use sensors for our mailbox or gate. Does not have long distance signal. Got a Yolink hub with speaker that announces and outdoor sensors. Not very expensive and announces to echos also. Their system Lo Ra signals is best for longer range signals and inexpensive. Their freezer temp system alos works better for same reason. Aquara for indoor are okay and work good.
