Well executed approach for Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian Tunes and Styles.
Some of the material in this class was covered in a piano class I'm presently taking at the Jazz School in Berkeley, CA. and Ijust had to have the book. In Chapter 5 Brazilian comping is covered by having one first play the pulse using the root and5th of the chord against a melody. Then you play the pulse against a 2 measure rhythm of chords. And finally you play amelody against the same rhythm of 2 measures of chords by placing the chords in the left hand. On page 59 find a copy of "The Girl From Ipanema," and go through the comping pattern given using this approach. Then finally, there are a number of comping rhythms given, and they too can be played against the melody from this same piece. I was also interested in how one might arrange a solo for Latin music. An excellent example is given in the back for a solo piano arrangement called "Bozza Nozza." I still haven't gotten to the CD. This book is fantastic, especially if you worked on this material before.

Piano Spice
As probably at least a middle intermediate piano player, this book provided me a number of pieces that were enjoyable and challenging to learn. And these pieces have given me a decent introduction to a number of latin music styles with music I would be happy to play for anyone who wants to listen. I'm still working on 2 of the piano versions of Bozza Nozza (hasta ahora "no va") - Brazilian rhythm is particularly challenging for me to play well, but still fun wth each stride taken.

Good but song selection for solo piano is very limited
It is a very well structured, and researched book. Only reason I’m not giving five stars is that there isn’t a lot of solo piano work in here. If solo pieces are what you’re looking for I’d suggest another book. Generally great books from this Hal Leonard series

Nice book
Nice book!I can advice it to all levels, Beginner = you need a basic knowledge of chords and basic knowledge of reading notes. Intermediate = Ideal for intermediates to develop repertorium. Advaced = If you are an advance player this book can guide you to discover the latin piano world.Bossanova, Samba, Salsa, and some others.

High quality from John Valerio. Excelent for beginners.
Thanks John Valerio. I wish you gave more examples on popular latin songs, and also, more examples on latin jazz piano improvisation, maybe in next edition of the same book. High quality.
