I've bought 4 guidebooks for a planned trip to New Zealand (hey, I'll likely only go there once, and want to be assured of making the most of it).This is easily the best.

I think once you're familiar with the format you gravitate to the same travel-book publisher. I love the consistency of Lonely Planet publications and this New Zealand book didn't disappoint.

It truly excellent book. As to be expected. Plenty of pictures, plenty of side notes. While I could’ve done with a bit more of the places to stay or the other unique little things that lonely planet used to have, It’s still a solid investment.

Covers all areas well. Good organization.

He hasn't made me return it, so it must be great!

We purchased Lonely Planet New Zealand to help plan a trip. The book reads like a lovely coffee table book. When I checked who wrote it, they were mainly authors and writers. As a traveler, I didn't need beautifully written descriptions of locations. I was looking for travel tips, information on when it is best to visit a museum, etc. I wanted to know about the small local cafe, etc. I was so accustomed to finding all that information in Rick Steves Europe travel books, that I found myself disappointed in Lonely Planet. No need to purchase this book. You can find more information online researching areas of New Zealand you wish to visit. Rick Steves please write a travel book for New Zealand.

I have been a loyal LP customer for years now. However, I am sad to say that it is now time to move on. If you are reading this do NOT buy any of the LP books if they have the new formatting including this one. All of that rich information that we have come to love in the back of each section of the old versions (getting there and away, accommodation, eating, etc.) has been gutted out. All that remains now is what feels like a useless children’s picture book. It’s beyond disappointing. This new style is just so awful! Oh LP, what have you done!?!?!
