So Conan!
Thirty years ago, TSR released a pair of Conan Adventures for Dungeons & Dragons. They were fun and scratched the itch a bit, but they never quite felt right to the Hyborian Age. Modiphius has produced something wonderful here, clearly working hard to stay true to the original Howard stories. The system is complex, but easy to learn for RPG regulars, which helps weave a beautiful tapestry. Last night, my players and I say down and made their characters using the random generation system. It was a little odd at first - sometimes the die rolls seemed to contradict each other - but as it came together, I could see their gears turning as to how they would make it work. This led to wonderfully complex characters and back stories. I can't wait to dive further in!

Fantastic Tabletop Adaptation
I have long been looking for an action-oriented system that captures the feel of rollicking sword-and-sorcery combat in the tabletop form. This system with its constant trade off between advantages for the player and the gamemaster, its simplified but meaningful character generation, and its ability to be spontaneous, hits all the marks for accurate capturing Robert E Howard's setting. Not to mention the setting lore section is also extremely strong. This is an RPG worth investing in, especially, but not only, for Conan fans.

Really fun, really different (and that's good!)
Lots of folks read the book and don't understand it right away. They think the doom points are a way for the GM to attack the players. It isn't, it is all about pace and the story telling.Get the main book, and if something floats your fancy, go for it.The supplements are great for background for any game system.

Awesome rpg very true to its setting! book lay out problematic..
First, I love the book and the art of this book, it's one of the many reasons I bought the game. I also love this game, however, it's a bit tough to recommend outright.playing DnD and PF with epic fantasy campaigns akin to Lotr, Conan is low fantasy, sword & sorcery pulpy adventures.Robert E Howard's world is explained and true to the canonical lore and such. think of this book as an encyclopedia of Howard's world of the Hyborian Age. if this book doesn't get you to seek out the stories, then this is a fantastic read on the world.first, character creation is excellent, it is very helpful with examples of how stats work, and the random dice generator is really fun! my players rolled 2 barbarians but they were completely different from one another. once you're done with character creation, onto gameplay, and that's where the book drops the ball.finding information in this book is White Wolf levels of frustrating, if you read any old WoD books, information is spread out and isn't highlighted clearly or is vague. I don't mind vague rules as it's the GM's discretion to make those calls, however, when looking for something specific like, what to spend for Doom, for example, it gives you a list, but doesn't offer examples of other means of spending doom. the same for spending momentum, which while purely conjecture on my part, I feel they spread out most of that information on their sourcebooks, which are fantastic, I just wish they'd have a spot where they can tell you like Mongoose Traveller which books you can get more information on what you're looking for.the 2d20 system is one of those you'll love or hate. my players at first did not like it, mainly because of the confusion of the use of 2d20, but they caught on to it as well played. what can be confusing is the Combat Dice aka d6 damage dies. this is where I have an issue to buy unique facing dies because the six-sided dices are different values for calculating damage. 1 and 2 counts as 1 and 2 points of damage, 3 and 4 are blanks, and 5 and 6 do 1 damage plus activate an effect of your weapon. while the special facing dies will make it "easier" what happens when the game is no longer supported? my players and I were able to adjust to that, but it sometimes does take time.what's really weird, is there is a sorcery section while lacking, it is doable, but there isn't a section on the gods, which is very problematic for priest characters. this is where the Book of Skelos is a must and Nameless Cults will help with that, and luckily Google is your friend, but that lack of information is a big problem. the other weird thing, and I think it's unique to Conan, is the character sheet. the main sheet is so wild, I mean it looks really nice, but there's so much going on that you'll lose your numbers and information easily.it sounds like I do not like the game, no, it's really fun, fast-paced, combat is super fast and the mental attacks are very Conan, a steely glare to scare your opponents, and role-playing is pretty fun too! it's a skilled-based game, so it's really fun, and the die rolls really help with narrative kicks and such. however, I wouldn't suggest Conan right away, there are other pulpy low fantasy-style games out there. if you wish to try out Conan, get the free quickstart games The Pit of Kutallu and To Race the Thunder scenarios, in that order, that's how I was sold on Conan, and they're the low low price of free, so it won't hurt your wallet, once you and your group is sold on Conan, get this core book!

Superb
The rules are clear and play very quickly, no session has had to fumble through the rule book and there is not a night that goes by which does not contain rousing cheers from around the table. The rules are perfect for shaping swords and sworcery play. The art is beautiful and evocative on the whole. A couple of pieces don't stack up so well but for each that falters there is another which is just superlative.Genuinely my favorite RPG right now

A solid rules system but the content is not as inspiring as previous Conan RPGs.
I am familiar with the 2d20 system via Star Trek Adventures. That product line of books was chock full of beautiful, original art made just for those books. With this Conan game, not so much. The rules are a bit better organized than Star Trek Adventures, but you still have to dig in and read and reread to get a character made properly. It’s tough to sort through at first, but not too bad once you figure it out.The writers did do a good job of capturing the feel of R. E. Howard’s dark fantasy setting. But don’t expect any inspiring artwork on every page, unlike in some of Modiphius’ other product lines. The cover art is about the best you get, but there is very little of that between the covers. I’m probably just going to stick with the d20 Conan RPG from Mongoose Publishing.
