You'll need a 3-1/2" hole saw. If you're drilling into a 1-1/2" wood deck like I was, Ii's a good idea to use a drilling guide to keep the 4 perimeter holes perpendicular to the deck. Here's the one I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014A1Z92I.Before drilling anything on the trailer deck, know where the cross beams are under the deck. Be sure to consider the orientation of the underplate to these beams since it's longer on one side of the 3-1/2" hole for added strength.I started with the hole saw to establish a shallow circle about 1/8" deep, and the center point marked by the hole saw's pilot drill. Then I used the under plate from the kit as a template to mark the four perimeter holes (orienting it correctly as mentioned above). By not drilling out the 3-1/2" hole yet, the drill guide had a stable surface to stand on. I started with small drills and worked up to 3/8". I then went back and completed the pilot hole (with the same diameter drill as the pilot) again, using the drill guide to keep it perpendicular. Then I completed the 3-1/2" holes.Hope this helps.

Strong enough. Don’t use power tools to install the stainless steel hardware! Nuts will seize on bolts easily just using cordless drill. Hand turn only.

Added the 4 to my motorcycle trailer. Didn’t have one problem going 1400 miles.
