The Way It Was: Conversations with Iain Tobaidh - a lifetime of stories from the Uig, Isle of Lewis and beyond

A lovely collection of memories.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and the stories contained within. My mother was born and brought up in crofting communities in Shetland where I spent all of my school summer holidays and then lived in for 18 years. Iain's stories and David's telling of them brought back loads of memories of a very similar way of life that both sets of islands experienced and I felt lucky to have sampled a small part of. I look forward to visiting some of the places mentioned in the not too distant future.

Iain Tobaidh
I have been associated with Uig in Lewis for over 50 years and for 40 years before his death in 2011 was a close friend of Iain Tobaidh. I always looked forward to being in his company and to hearing the stories of many of his lifetime experiences and of the history and people of the Upper End of Uig. I also very much enjoyed reading about many of them when Dave Roberts started writing about them in the Uig News some years ago. I was therefore especially pleased to learn of the book's recent publication and on obtaining a copy read it from cover to cover in a very short time. Congratulations to Dave Roberts, the MacDonald family and to all those who helped make the book a reality.
