It really works. Better than any other natural flame pipe lighter I've tried. The flame is big. Tilt the lighter, and the flame goes up through the top big hole. Lower it down to the pipe and draw air, then the big flame reverses direction and lights the tobacco. No more worries about needing a blue-flame torch lighter. This thing solved the problem.

Zippo has a reputation for very high quality lighters and accessories and this is no exception I upgraded to this since I smoke pipe more than anything else and it is a great way to light the pipe

This works perfectly for lighting up my pipe. Pretty wind resistant as well. Pipe lighters can get crazy expensive or be so cheap they fall apart before you use them.. this insert is neither of these things. Great price, does what it says, and very durable. It sits the tiniest bit loose in the body of the zippo. I’m never afraid that’s is going to slide out but occasionally I do have to push it back down the slightest bit.

If you smoke a pipe, and already have a Zippo, get this pipe insert. Fits perfectly in my Zippo shell. Solves the problem of burning the rim of your pipe. Lights better with the flame directed clean into the pipe. I guess it would work great for bongs too. Buy it.

Zippo reached out and let me know that air can get trapped making the lighting inconsistent and hindering a full fill. They instructed me to poke the filling valve until all of the contents were emptied, then to refill with butane. It’s best to empty it completely before refilling. (By the way, the flint-looking thing at the end of the spring IS NOT THE FLINT. The flint is separate and loose. Newbie mistake. I also replaced the flint.) Thank you, Zippo! I’m back to loving my lighter. ❤️) Previous review: I was hopeful for this product. When it was new it took two to three tries to light, and just got more and more inconsistent. Now it stopped working. I’ve filled with zippo butane, checked the flint… nothing. It’s also not wind proof like other zippos. I wrote to zippo a week ago and have heard nothing from them. I’ve gone back to using my lighter from the dollar store. Save your money.

Love the fluid pipe lighters and had high hopes for the butane. But, it was a major failure. At least for a tobacco pipe anyway. The beauty of the fluid pipe lighters is the flame goes up. This allows you to draw the flame in and have much better control. The butane shoot the flame down. Okay, if you can get an extremely fast light. But since it shoots the flame down and the flame will naturally want to go up, this thing heats up extremely fast. So if you are looking for a finger roaster, this is your lighter. These problems become even more extreme if you are left handed. Will keep with Zippos fluid pipe lighters and would suggest you do the same.

I got this insert to replace an original lighter fluid one for lighting my tobacco pipes and so that I could use a sentimental Zippo body. The insert came with everything but the butane. Getting the butane in was a breeze with a zippo fuel can. The flint wheel, when still brand new, can chew into your thumb. This does not have an "lid open = gas on" gas switch. You have to hold the button down like on any disposable lighter. With my big hands/fingers the gas button is just about too small to hit consistently while striking. Once I got the hang of it, this has become my favorite pipe lighter. The gentle flame is of sufficient size to get to those moist half-bowls some aromatics tend to form. In my old Zippo body, the famous Zippo "click" is still crisp, as is opening and closing it. Old dog, new tricks! Remember to occasionally wipe down the chrome where the flame comes out and where the flint throws sparks, and you'll have a beautiful lighter to puff away on your pipes with for a long time.

For the windy streets of Edinburgh this came more use than an IM Corona

Quasi tout est dans le titre et pas de risque de brûler le bord de la pipe avec une flamme horizontale. Je remplace le feutre du fond par un obturateur (le modèle métallique avec joints en caoutchouc), ce qui réduit très significativement l’évaporation de l’essence. Autre option: un insert au gaz pour briquets.
