I've become a big fan of SharkBite fittings. I've been doing plumbing as a DIY'er for 50+ years having sweated hundreds, if not thousands, of copper fittings so the first time I saw a push to connect fitting I scoffed and swore I would never use one until about 15 years ago when I needed to make a temporary connection to a hot water heater and, lacking a torch, had to use a couple. Those "temporary" connections lasted the life time of the water heater and then some with out dripping one drop of water and over the course of years I've become a fan of these as they work, are simple to use and you don't have to worry about getting all the water out of a line or catching something on fire. The one thing I lacked was one of these depth gauges/deburring tools so when I saw this I decided it was high time to get one and I'm glad I did. Now I now longer have to guess as to when the fitting is fully seated (critical to making a good connection) and a quick way to deburr what ever I'm attaching it to in order so that the internal o-ring isn't damaged as it's put on. This is a great tool to have in my tool box and with the three sizes that I always use on one tool keeps anything from being lost. Works great and wasn't very expensive, certainly worth the money.

This tool serves very simple purposes. First, it provides the depth which you need to insert the Shark bite fitting into the PEX to properly connect the PEX to the fitting. Once the PEX has had any burrs knocked off of it by rotating the PEX in the proper sized diameter tube into the tool, its ready to be marked with a sharpie pen so you know how far to seat the Shark Bite fitting. Cut the PEX squarely, insert it into the de-burring tool and rotate the tubing both directions to knock off any burrs on the PEX tubing. You could do this with other tools, but it's not as fast and efficient as using this tool. I guess in a way, this is also a PEX diameter measuring tool to help use the right fittings, but that's pretty elementary also as only the right size fittings will fit the PEX......Plus you can tell by looking after having done this a few times. If you are going to use Shark bite fittings and PEX, you might as well spend a few bucks for this tool and just make the process as easy as possible. The Shark bite fittings already make the process incredibly simple, this tool just enhances it. Sometimes, having the right tool makes the process simpler and faster and this is one of those cases. Its easier to mark the depth using this than a tape measure......and its always going to be the same with this. Just make sure to cut your PEX SQUARELY......the de-burring tool will show you when its not square.....

This product doesn't fir south African size pipes 15mm 20mm or 25mm so don't buy it cause it needs the pipe to fit snuggly into it in order to debur it
