Three-disc set includes: The Thing From Another World (1951)The original sci-fi chiller about scientists of an Arctic outpost who find an alien spaceship and it's passenger buried in the ice. When the creature is thawed out, it unleashes a rampage of horror. Kenneth Tobey, Margaret Sheridan, and James Arness, in the title role, star. Produced by Howard Hawks, who reportedly had a hand in helping helmer Christian Nyby. 87 min. BW/Rtg: NR The Thing (1982)John Carpenter's harrowing remake of the '50s classic centers on a snowbound research team in Antarctica that encounters a vicious, shape-shifting alien organism. Cut off from the rest of the world, paranoia and mistrust begin to set in as the men realize any one of them could be the creature. Features state-of-the-art (for their time) makeup effects and a haunting score from Ennio Morricone. Kurt Russell, Keith David, Donald Moffat, Richard Dysart, and Wilford Brimley star. 109 min. C/Rtg: R The Thing (2011)In this spine-tingling prequel to John Carpenter's cult shocker, the members of a multi-national science team discover a seemingly dead alien frozen beneath Antarctica. But when the creature escapes from it's icy coffin very much alive, it's ability to imitate humans makes it nearly impossible to find, let alone kill. Can the monster be stopped before it's too late? Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen star. 103 min. C/Rtg: R Standard/Widescreen; Soundtrack: English; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Spanish; audio commentary; featurettes; storyboards; deleted scenes; extended scenes; more. Review: Who goes there? - The thing is one of the most underrated horror franchise out there. Now the original thing from another world is a straight forward monster movie. With a few intriguing moments. But the John Carpenter remake with Kurt Russell is the better movie, having the monster being a Lovecraftian horror by giving it the ability to mimic anything it devours or infects. Paranoia and tension are big parts of setting the atmosphere and suspense. The gore and special effects are awesome and still hold up today. The prequel is an unappreciated entry by telling the story of the research crew who found the alien in the first film and giving us a awesome final girl in Kate Lloyd being a Ellen Ripley successor. Now the cgi was a bit distracting but I still enjoyed. Review: Awesome movies - Three great movies all in one collection. The Thing from the 80's is one of my favorite sci fi/horror movies. The one from 2015 was also great. It had the same feeling as the 80's movie.

A very good sci-fi collection.
3 exciting sci-fi movies. The classic 1950's version of the THING is a mix of comedy and action. One of the 50's classics. The second movie is the John CARPENTER remake in the 1980's with more emphasis on horror and special effects. It is still a cult classic. The last film is a sort of prequel about what happened before the John CARPENTER version. It adds more special effects and mystery. Overall, a very good collection.

Worth showing the grandkids.
You just can't beat the classics, unless you're a classic. #2 was real good but 3 should have stayed at home. Lol

Classic Horror
This is the US2023 DVD version of 3 films relsed in 1951, 1982 and 2011. The Thing From Another World (1951) Audio:English Subtitles: English, Spanish and French Extras:None One of my favourite films, mainly because it's not a horror film as such, it's more of a drama suspence film. I've always liked the fact that it's about a team effort of trying to destroy The Thing and the characters don't appeard to be people stuck in their teenage years. The conflict appears to be more with the scientist vs the military, i.e. survival or knowledge. The Thing (1982) Audio:English, French Subtitles: English, Spanish and French Extras: Plenty of production notes and and a lenghty documentary (over an hour), commentary by John Carpenter and Kurt Russell Much more of a horror movie and a reasonably good one, although I always thought the Kurt Russel seemed a bit off in this one, can't put my finger on why. John Carpenter doesn't remake the original movie his version is much closer to the orignal novel in that The Thing can change shape and so the story is as much about who has been infected by The Thing as well as trying to destroy it. It irritates me that some of the characters seemed act like moody teenagers but maybe that was the style at the time. The Thing (2011) Audio: English, Spanish, French Subtitles: English, Spanish and French Extras: Deleted Senes, 2 documentaries and a commentary In the beginning of John Carpenters movie we learn about a Norwegian site that had already been destroy by The Thing (why Norwegian?, I don't know), this movie is the story about the Norwegian site. It's biggest problem is that it's a lot like the 1982 version and therefore seems a little unecessary but it also brings back some elements of the first movie as well so it's not a bad little horror flick especially when you see the two headed version of The Thing!!
