I love this book and like to read it to my group at nursery
I love this book and like to read it to my group at nursery DESPITE being told by the council (outsourced) training course for Senco's telling me it is not inclusive and shouldn't be used 😱 ......that is of course according to the current "educational expertise" we are subjected to. I find it a very useful book and in the end a qualified and experienced practitioner or teacher can make any and all books inclusive. This book points at misconceptions being passed down from adults to children since children by nature are neither homophobic nor racist just inquisitive and that should be encouraged.

Disability:Dont call me special
This is a good book to introduce children to disability. The story is not too long and it is well illustrated, both of which keep childrens attention!

Not a fan of this
I think I can see what is tying to be done here but I just can’t get my head around this.My son has complex needs, is delayed, immobile so in a wheelchair.I bought this curious to see whether it would be useful for his classmates.Actually I was left feeling that it just pointed out the things that they can’t do. As a parent I certainly wouldn’t want this read out to the class with my son present. As he is the only disabled child in the class it would be singling him to all the other kids who quite frankly don’t see him as different in the first place.I think this could have been done without specifically talking about ‘disability’ etc etc. It could have just been about differences. Some children learn to read more slowly than others, whether disabled or not and so on. To solely look at ‘the disabled’ in the book I feel it does the opposite to what it is trying to achieve. The 5* review from someone above who reads it to their class, going against senco advice rather mockingly....I’m all for being frustrated with the ‘experts’, but as a parent who lives this every single second of the day and night, I have to agree with the senco on this one.Not for my child. He has enough labels.
