Scary Movie 2 [Blu-ray]

The Spoofing of Bad Films
Made and first released less than a year after Scary Movie, Scary Movie 2 is clearly a rush job. Its narrative's sloppy even for a parody and it relies to an extent on our memories of its predecessor; would we get the Shawn Wayans gay jock or Anna Faris punching bag jokes, for instance, if we hadn't already seen them? Also, characters disappear without ever being seen or mentioned again. That said, the only real indicator of quality for this genre is "did it make you laugh?", and in my case it did. I laughed fairly loudly and consistently during Scary Movie 2, so while it's not an achievement on the level of Airplane! or even Scary Movie, it does what it sets out to do, which is sometimes all that matters. It's also less bland and homogenised than Scary Movies 3 and 4, and, thank God, the Friedberg/Seltzer crap.A problem may be that, while Scary Movie borrowed its plot structure from Scream, a great film, this sequel's primarily based on 1999's remake of The Haunting, a sentimental crapfest which doesn't need parodies to point out its flaws. The film begins, however, with an Exorcist parody starring James Woods in the Max Von Sydow role; some of its jokes thud harder than a suicide hitting concrete, but there's a few gags, mostly courtesy of Woods, which really made me laugh. Then we get some basic plot setup where Cindy (Anna Faris) and her surviving friends, now college students, are convinced by a lecherous Tim Curry to stay at a haunted mansion. Curry's assistant is David Cross, an absurdly proud paraplegic, and there's other students including Christopher Masterson (of Malcolm in the Middle fame), Tori Spelling and Kathleen Robertson. The mansion is overseen by Chris Elliot, a disgusting caretaker with one deformed hand. You could re-arrange a lot of Scary Movie 2's midsection without affecting much; it's barely more than disconnected skits. I get that narrative logic isn't the point of films like this, but the first Scary Movie followed its plot and accounted for its characters fairly well. Most of the characters here, especially Masterson, Spelling and Robertson, are just joke ciphers with no recognisable personalities. Even Curry's and Cross' roles aren't much of anything; they just feed off of the actors' charisma. Faris, as always, is great. In my opinion she's an underrated comic actress; she never acts like she's in on the joke, which would spoil it, and delivers even the smuttiest lines with a hilarious girlish innocence. Regina Hall returns as her bitchy friend, and is also a delight to watch. So while Scary Movie 2 is an undeniably rushed cash-in, it's also quite funny. What more were you expecting?

Classic!!
Love this film! Classic, and a reminder of all the old scary films before.Still makes me laugh after all these years. My son's watched it with me, and even though they hadn't see the originals they still enjoyed the film and the stupidity of everything.

love this movie
the dvd is not in HD or amazing quality but it is decent quality (better than watching online) and the sounds normal, the outercase has dust inside of it which is visible and makes it looks old and dirty even though it it brand new, it says 18 on the front but i think that's in America because it's only a 15 in the UK, inside there are leaflets or anything just the disk, the disk was brand new, no scratches.I love the scary movie sega i find them all differently funny and are nice to have for a sleepover with friends.
