Take 2 Clack 99001 Punch-Bell Egg Cracker with Rubber Head

I bought this cracker (or clacker) primarily to remove the tops of raw hen eggs so I could pasteurise the empty shell and use them to present a dish in.I'm happy to be able to say that it worked absolutely perfectly, you place the dome on top of the egg, raise the weight then release, a perfect cracked ring is then created around the top of the egg which you can easily remove with a sharp knife, leaving a perfectly cut top. Out of the 10 raw eggs I used this on I only had 1 failure and that was down to me having the base of the raw egg on the granite work surface so when the weight dropped the base also got cracked (silly me!), easily solved with a folded napkin to cushion the egg.I've since use it on several boiled eggs (sat in an egg cup) and it works just as well on these, although I did find one egg required a second clack.Overall I would highly recommend this clacker, it does its job very well, is easy to clean and feels very well made.

This is a beautiful piece of metal work. Heavy, nicely turned metal. However it isn't the magical egg cracker it claims to be. We have tried it on about 6 eggs now. The first time it made a nice perforation and lifted the lid half off, but that was as good as it got. I admit it could be our poor technique, but since then we have had cracked shells in a nice line but you still have to use the spoon or knife to actually free the top from the egg. I don't bother using it any more. I expect we will probably get it out when visitors come though for the novelty.January 25th. I have just used the clacker again and found it did a great job, so now I regret my negative review. I have bumped it up to 4 stars and changed the title. I imagine technique is important. Or maybe it's the eggs.....

Exelent device! Great look, beautiful finish and very easy to use.I saw this Egg Knocker once and fell in love with it.It's design is minimalistic and it has only one purpose which does in a perfect matter.You do need to get the hint of it and I recommend to press a bit before letting the ball slide down.If you did all right then you just have to tilt the Egg Knocker and it will peal the shell-lid by its own.Now I enjoy my morning eggs even more!

I bought this with the aim of decorating out of date chickens eggs for the Easter table. I need a really clean ‘break’ in the egg shell in order to glue the egg back together again before painting it. Despite following instructions to the letter (it’s not rocket science!) at least half of all the eggs I have tried (at least 30 by now) break or chip in the process. I have tried hard boiling them but it doesn’t make any difference. So far I have no similar products to compare it to so I don’t know if there are better products out there for the same price. Perhaps I’ll have to go back to old fashioned egg-blowing!

Probably the best £20 I've ever spent, it may be a novelty but it works great and makes for a great gift too!

The product was not MatferBourgeat branded! But another cheap brand that did not met the expectations at all! Disappointed!

I had used one of these before and I was able to remove the top of the egg without the use of a knife. Unfortunately with this one I can't. I don't know why as they look similar.
