AMAZING growing medium! I’m mind blown!
I am new to growing plants in moss over soil. But WOW! This moss is amazing! The plants I’m growing in this kids are growing SO MUCH MORE rapidly than the plants I’ve put in soil or water!! This moss is my all time favorite growing medium!!

It is not good for air layering.
The sphagnum moss, if used for air layering will kill the air layered branch and it will not develop any roots, for which is the reason that you want to air layer the branch.

Very dirty, grass and debris in it.
This compressed block is full of grass/weed leaves, small branches. Some is green. I’ve rinsed it 5 times and it is still producing dirty, murky water. I have used many different spagnum mosses from different suppliers, this is absolutely the worst. Not sure if I can return it now, but do not waste your money. Also the dry brick did not weigh as much as stated.

it's ok but there are better mosses out there
The media could not be loaded. This came in a flat compressed block that had to be placed in water so that it would expand. The compressed brick was approximately 5 inches x 8 inches x 1 inch thick and once dropped into a bucket of water provided a fair amount of loose moss in just a couple minutes. For over ten years I owned a company that sold supplies for growing orchids so I know the importance of using good quality material. I was disappointed to see that the quality of moss was not up to my expectations. It had a small amount of sticks or other debris that would need to be picked out but not as badly as other compressed blocks that I've tried. I have a large collection with hundreds of orchids so I prefer a good quality moss from New Zealand. This unfortunately is not of the quality that I would use to pot my orchids. The moss that I am currently using is full of leaf texture which holds the moisture and is great for using in the pot or over the roots of mounted plants. A good quality leafy moss will hold moisture but not compact too tightly to allow for some air within the pot. This moss does not have as good a texture as the moss that I currently use and compacts much too tightly for my uses.I uploaded a video that shows the difference between this moss on the left and the moss that I use on the right. You should be able to see in the video that there are other mosses that have much more leaf texture. Depending on your use this may be fine for you but for my collection it is not of the quality that I need to use to be sure my orchids grow as successfully as possible.

This is a ton of moss!
I didn't need a lot of moss, just some for my plants and I also wanted to experiment with re-growing moss for terrariums and things like that. I was not planning on how absorbent the moss is which is good, but yeah it ended up being way more moss than I know what to do with. I mean thankfully you can just re-dry it out and store it again. So don't do what i did and get the whole block wet all at once :) For regrowing moss I had to get out all the little sticks and leaves which there were a bit of... I am not familiar with moss so I am not sure how normal this is or isn't. But it wasn't too bad. The regrowing off moss takes like 2 months, so I can't speak it this is a good moss to bring back to life, but so far it is doing well in my plants that require a bit more humidity and dampness. So I like this a lot since I can forget to water every now and again. I am new overall to spagnum moss, but I have been researching what to do with all of it since I have so much and there is quite a bit, so for me I am liking this so far. I know it says for orchids, but I am not using it for that, so it's great for my purposes at the moment!

Excellent Quality – NOT ready to use – Easy to rejuvenate
Excellent Quality – NOT ready to use – Easy to rejuvenateOf course, it is reasonable that this Sphagnum Moss is shipped in a condensed compressed dried out form. Doing so is economically and environmentally practical. It is not that much trouble to rejuvenate it to a usable form. I don’t like the American-English ambiguous poorly defined system of measurements that by design confuses volume and weight. An ounce of water is what? Is it 1/8 of a cup that is by definition 8 ounces of VOLUME. Or is an ounce of water a weight of 1/16 of a pound weight. Anyway, I received the weight of ~5.3 ounces of condensed compressed dried out Sphagnum Moss. The package stated that it would absorb about 8 times its weight in water. So, I put the moss in a bucket and poured in (8x5~=40) 40 volume ounces of water. Which, incidentally weighs 40 ounces. Overnight I had the perfect packing moss for my strawberry plant vase.
