A box spring is not necessary. ALWAYS follow dimensions for Toddler mattress size. • DO NOT use a water bed or all foam mattress. • AVOID ENTRAPMENT HAZARDS! Q: Does the toddler mattress sit directly on the floor or is off the floor within the bed frame?

Q: How are the bolts supposed to go in order to hold front and sides on toddler bed? I cannot make them go in and hold everything together.

I would go back over the instructions to ensure you didn’t miss a step, I followed them closely and had no problem putting all together. Also, aligning the bolts does take a little wiggling since there is a small amount of play.
