Relatively bulky but performs well. Get the right driver!
I have bought three of these for two purposes, and two were used to control Optimyst fires. These fires have momentary switch inputs to turn the fire effect on and off, using volt free switching. So it is not possible to substitute a single two-way switch, each function requires a channel in this device.I am using it with the Smart Things hub; you need to download a better driver (the LAN driver available on the SmartThings forum) to enable the switches to work as auto-off, so they only work momentarily when triggered. This device registers very easily on the hub, and responds quickly to commands (from Alexa or part of room scenes) without dropping out. Similarly, the state of the device is reported accurately on Alexa, but perversely, not on Smart Things.Space is not a factor in the use I am making, so the greater size relative to other manufacturers is not a problem. It would need a 35 or 45 mm box to hide comfortably behind a switch, a plast er depth or 25mm box is not sufficient.

Easy to install and pair
Easy to install and pair. A good introduction to the world of smart technology to run your home.

Rubbish devices terrible range fall over after a couple of days
Do yourself a favour do not buy these devices the range is terrible and they fail go dead after a few days response times are horrendous. All 27 other z wave devices are working fine but the 4 of these that I ordered are nothing but issue after issue.

Compatible with Smart Things hub
This device connects seamlessly to the Smart Things hub and connects to the network more than 4 meters away from the hub and through several walls (not recommended to try and connect like this). I bought it not realising that it requires momentary action switches, whereas the single pole version will also accept toggle switches. However, like all Vesternet branded devices, it works consistently well on our network. We modified the BG switches to use with this (they are made with a spigot to hold a return spring) but you can buy suitable momentary switches. This device is not as small as Fibaro devices and is intended for 35mm depth continental circular wall boxes. We have not mounted it in the switch box but in a separate box above the ceiling void where it is easier to access. The relay contacts in this are rated higher than those in smaller packages, and this device is suitable for LED bulbs (Fibaro switches should not be used for LED lights) and we have it running 16 x 5W bulbs on one pole and 8 x 5W bulbs on the second.

Unable to fit
This is a review of the Z-Wave smart dimmer which unfortunately I struggled to install. I wanted to place the unit behind an existing light switch. Whilst the wiring set up is fine - with live, neutral and earth cables, the module will simply not fit in the space behind my switch. I’ve experienced this kind of issue before and have always been able to make the cavity behind a switch larger. In this instance there is no way the unit will fit. Installation instructions are also very limited. For me a two-star product. Be aware that with standard UK lighting switch work installation may not be possible.

So far so good
A nice addition to my growing smart home. I mostly use Zigbee devices as they're cheaper but like the chance to test a Z-Wave device. Got it installed and connected to Home Assistant. Was easy to install and connect and has been running reliably for several days now. I can only comment on my experience of using them for the past week but so far so good.

S2 Security
I initially struggled to pair this and only managed without security, but moving the device closer I was able to pair it with S2 security. However, it did not come with a QR code so was only able to achieve the unauthenticated security level (not a big deal unless someone is actively trying to pair something to your network at the same time as you - unlikely!).I used ZWave2Js and everything was recognized, and quickly imported into Home Assistant. It has sensors for current, voltage, power and an accumulating energy usage in kWh to track your use.It doesn't have any LED indicators so its not possible if it is successfully in pairing mode, but otherwise works as expected.I didn't use the included bypass as I have both live and neutral at my switches.

Smart Switch Module
The smart switch module is good for basic home automation. It integrates well with systems like Home Assistant and SmartThings, allowing for convenient control of lights and appliances. The installation process was straightforward, but the neutral wire option can be confusing for some users. The module works reliably, but it occasionally has connectivity issues that require reconfiguration. It’s a good option for those looking to dip their toes into smart home technology, though it might not be the best choice for more advanced setups. Overall, it performs its intended function but could benefit from improved reliability.
