Easy To Use Once You Get Past the Bad Instructions
This is a great, low profile photo-electric smoke detector. As stated by other reviewers, this type of smoke detector catches slow, smoldering fire types. The instructions! Oh, those instructions! You need to know that the "button" referred to in the instructions is the center of the smoke detector housing. There is no obvious button. The whole cover pushes in just slightly, acting as the activating/testing/resetting button. The LED referred to shines >through< the plastic cover. When it is not illuminated, you cannot see it. The mounting plate that is screwed or stuck onto the ceiling is very thin - not easy to see when installed on the smoke detector. As stated by other reviewers, you need to put your palm on the base of the detector and rotate your hand counterclockwise while applying pressure to release the base for installation.Once you get past these misunderstanding, the detector is slim, attractively simple appearing and is controlled like other smoke detectors. File those instructions away for future reference.

A great PhotoElectric alarm with 10 year designed lifespan
This HATHEPHS PhotoElectric Smoke Detector works pretty well and has a built-in lithium battery designed to last 10 years. It's designed to be low profile at under 5" diameter and only 1.25" thick. There is a grill over the speaker and a gap around the circumference to allow airflow, but there's no text or grips on the front or sides, the green and red LEDs shine through the dome body, and the only button is pressed by pushing on the center of the dome and deforming the plastic. The featureless design was actually a little problematic when I first tried to remove the mounting plate and couldn't find any visible seam or grip onto anything well enough to rotate the mounting plate from the unit itself. The 10 year battery should make it very, very seldom that you need to unmount the unit from the mounting plate, but it was frustrating. The detector comes with a double-sided adhesive foam circle and a set of drywall anchors and screws as mounting hardware. The unit can be turned on by pressing the center dome for ~10 seconds until the alarm beeps once/flashes the red LED. The unit can be turned off by holding the center dome for ~20 seconds until the alarm beeps twice/flashes the red LED twice. While on, the green LED flashes about once a minute and a red LED flashes when the alarm is triggered. If you press the dome button when the alarm is sounding, it silences for ~10 minutes and keeps flashing the red LED while silenced.I lit a bit of scrap paper in a jar and waived the detector above it. That quickly confirmed that smoke does trigger the photoelectric alarm and the silence button worked properly too. My Hathephs photoelectric alarm wasn't triggered by steam from the shower or electric oven when I placed the detector near those common sources of false alarms (with ionization detectors).

Seems to be well made, slim design is nice
This is a nice, slim design photoelectric smoke detector (which are ideal for detecting smoke from smoldering fires, whereas ionization smoke alarms detect smoke from fast, flaming fires. ) It is recommended to have both types in your home btw!The optional screw in bracket (which blends in so seamlessly to the whole thing, at first I couldn't tell it was in there.. but it is just turn the back to the left sort of with your whole palm and it will come off) is probably the best choice but I like that it also includes a sturdy super sticky adhesive backing in case your not able to do the bracket option. This has a built in battery, like most newer smoke detectors like this do, and it says it lasts til April 2032, so a little less than 10 years. The push-the-whole-center (of the unit) to silence or test idea is kind of good but also bad. It's somewhat nice if you have high ceilings and can simply use a broomstick to hush/test it. However, if someone else isn't aware of this fact they will be at odds trying to figure out how to hush it (and not many people think to tell the babysitter, for example, how to silence (all the different) smoke detectors in the home. Though, to be fair, it does recommend using this in bedrooms, hallways, stairwells, etc and not in the kitchen, garage or bathroom, where it would be more susceptible to false alarms.Overall it seems like a decent detector for the price point and to be able to stick it on the wall makes it a bit more convenient than many others (and perhaps more likely for people to use them). I would recommend it for that reason alone.

Easy installation, long life battery
This smoke detector has to ways to attach to the wall or ceiling. You can either mount it with screws or there is a very strong adhesive that will attach it wherever you want it. Make sure you follow the instructions to activate it. It has a 10 year battery so I think it is a good idea to mark the date installed on the side of the detector as we all know time goes by much faster than we realize. It will still be a good idea to test it a few times a year to see if it is working as it should. We have several detectors in our house and I can still think of places to add a few more. You can never be too prepared!

Haven't needed it yet, but it passed self checks and forced flame test
Thankfully, we haven't need it yet, but after installing it we tested it with both its test button and by using a controlled fire near it to see if it picked it up and sounded the alarm. It worked well and detected the fire quickly. Was easy to silence after alarm went off with its huge push button.

10 year battery is nice feature
I got these to replace my existing smoke detectors that were in place when we moved into this house. The old detectors were over 10 years old which is the rule of replacement, as the detector elements may not be as effective over that period of time. The 10 Year battery on this new unit will be a good reminder that when the battery life is gone, it's time to replace the detector. That said, it was to my advantage that the existing detectors were installed in effective spots. That made replacement quick and easy. The hardest part was separating the mounting base from the back of the detector!
