Big bang for your buck
Love it, love it, love it!Sharp as a tack even when wide open and very little distortion - what else can you want from a lens? The focus ring feels solid and smooth. With the addition of a raised lever type bit on it, it's easy to operate to a high level of accuracy. There's a focus locking ring too but that's a little harder to operate as it is sandwiched between the lens hood and focus ring - my fingers feel like they're likely to be moving the focus ring whilst I apply the lock. Kinda the opposite of its purpose. But it's not really a problem - if you really needed to lock the focus off I'm sure you could with a bit of care. The packaging it arrived in was very fancy but probably overkill - knock five quid off the price and do away with the Irix biscuit tin - I'm not going to use it, ever!I wondered about getting the metal version of this but went for the cheaper plastic version. It doesn't feel cheap or look cheap or perform cheaply so I think it was the right choice. I really can't complain about the look or feel of the materials. Treat the lens with a little respect and I don't see why it won't last decades.I'm sure there's a good reason for it but the 95mm filter thread seems unnecessarily large. I'm not a common user of filters but a uv filter over the front element is something I tend to use for protection from knocks and the environment. Getting a 95mm filter of high enough quality to not impact the image quality is going to cost a load of can though.

The focus ring has a nice feel, not being sloppy and the outer ring ...
I have an old Nikon D5200 and wanted a lens for use with astro-photography. I spent ages looking at lens reviews but was put off by the 5 star/1 star reviews of the Samyang and it's rebadged versions. The Samyang seems to suffer on soft edges and incorrect focus markings (infinity not being infinity)I looked at reviews about the Irix and have seen stunning shots by local photographers. I was put off by it not being autofocus but I shouldn't have worried, particularly as I am a landscape photographer so tend to only need infinity focus. The lens arrives in a very fancy white box. Taking off the lid and the lens is perfectly packaged to stop it banging around. The lens comes with a soft bag, lens caps and lens hood. It looks and feels well-made particularly next to the plastic, cheapo kit lens.Initially a bit stiff to put onto the camera, but this has eased. The focus ring has a nice feel, not being sloppy and the outer ring can lock the focus ring so it doesn't accidently move.On an APS-C sensor, this gives a 22.5mm focal length which is fantastic. The sharpness blows the other lenses away and gives a nice wide-angle view - it's just what you need for that extra few mm. I guess on a full-frame this will be even better.

A Monster - too heavy for me!
This is a fine lens, which fully matches the reviews I had read before ordering. However it is enormous and heavy - much too much so, I am afraid. I returned it and bought the Voigtlander equivalent.

A big surprise
I was very pleasantly surprised with this lens it is very sharp in the middle wide open and stopping down to f4 and all the way through to f16 it is very sharp edge to edge. My favorite Landscape lens for quite a few years has been the Nikon 16-35 vr f4 lens which is lovely and sharp but the Irex is a lot sharper especially on the extreme edges, yes it is a prime lens and should in theory be sharper than the zoom but the difference is much more than I expected. The build quality is superb, the little extras like depth of field scale and the ability to use screw on filters make this a wonderful wide angle lens.

Just a terrible lens. Not worth £100 to be honest.
Small size was nice, but the quality of the materials is poor, the focus is not predictable and the lens hood did give a lot of flaring.Packaging was nice, probably too much spent on presentation rather than image quality.I returned this and bought an older Nikon 16MM AF-d F2,8 which is many times superior in every aspect, The nikon was £220 used, i did pay £265 for this Irix lens. Also, it is NOT autofocus.

Very Sharp lens, requires a certain amount of learning
Well made, nice weight, smooth focus, may need fine tuning for superb results, colour and sharpness.

Lens quality good image not
I was looking for a wide angle lens for my full frame camera and this one was suggested. Reading the reviews most said it was "pin sharp" but I was disappointed with the sharpness. I tried it against my standard lens which was not the same focal length and the quality was nowhere near as good; so I returned it.It was straight forward to us once I had taken a couple of photos. The lens itself was of a good quality and was not to heavy. The lens hood was a tight fit and I found I had to squash it slightly in one area to remove it.Some of the reviews I read before purchase said there was a variation in quality and I may just have received a substandard one. I did not want to keep buying and returning the lenses until I found one I liked as I may never get a better one and according to posts on the web I could be banned by Amazon for too many returns.

Infinity and beyond - not.
Really wanted to like this lens. It looks the business. Some reviews are great and if you have a good copy it should be a great lens. BUT, the achilles heel of this lens is the infinity focus. Mine just couldn't cut it. Had to send it back. Like I say, I really wanted to like this lens, but this was a fundamental problem.

Gratamente sorprendido

Well made and impressive for the price.
I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I ordered this lens. The package arrived, and as I was opening it, I was surprised to see a nicely made tin housing the lens. I wish my Canon L glass lenses that I have bought came packaged as nicely. I looked down at the lens and picked it up noticing it's heft. I mounted it to my camera and realized that it must have been made to some tight tolerances because of how nice a snug fit it had to the body. It works very well. The body seems tight and awesome. No slack or loose fitting parts. I went on the companies web site. the biggest difference between this lens and the one that is about $200 more by the same company (Irix) is that the more expensive one has a metal body more along the lines of the "L" glass. I would love to have one so I could do a side by side comparison, but I don't have that sort of cash to play with. I believe that the internal optics are the same in both. On a side note, if you go to the companies web site they also make a 11mm version. I haven't seen it on amazon yet. The pics that I have added of the church interior are straight out of the camera. No editing to improve them in any way. The other photo I added to show off the bokeh of the lens. If you want to order a filter or two for the front of the camera, it is 95mm. Yes, you read that right, 95mm. I picked up one on amazon for next to nothing compared to what most filters cost and it works great! Irix makes their own brand of filters, but sadly didn't see any list on Amazon. The lens takes crisp photos. I'm impressed with the quality of the glass. The BadIt's supposed to run a f-stop range of 2.4 to 22. My camera reads it as a 2.5 I can live with a 0.1 difference. That's it. So far that's the only bad thing I have to say about the lens.
