How do you grill a steak & get the grill maarks?

is the heating coil actually 8'' or smaller? Why do reviewers say it is only 3 to 4'' in diamater instead of 8'' as advertised?

Don't know the actual physical size, but the effective heating area as measured by placing 10 inch pan on the unit with bottom covered with water, the boiling area diameter is about 4 or 5 inches inches whereas doing the same on my LG induction range with 9 inch coil, the the diameter is about 7 to 8 inches. The unit was set at 330 degrees. Unfortunately, I cannot include the pictures.
