You will have the best rod holder on the beach
Premium materials.Premium performance.Premium price. So, let’s get the most obvious aspect out of the way first; This thing isn’t inexpensive! It’s got a hefty price tag.But it’s made from anodized aluminum, not cheap plastic like most sand spike rod holders are .This one is big and strong and it’s made to last.Perhaps it’ll last longer than you.It has an attached foot bracket so you’ll be able to drive it deeply and securely into the sand.It won’t fall over when you have your expensive rod and reel in it.It has a protective rubber cap on the end of the tube which not only protects your reel but it has a notch in the rubber which allows you to “lock” your reel into place in the rod holder. It’s very secure. It also has an attached bait box and a tool rack. It’s a Very handy way for you to keep your fishing tools ready to use. This is a really great product and is so much better than the ones you usually find in tackle shops.People will actually be coming up to you on the beach wanting to know where you found such a nice rod holder. The price of this rod holder is a little hard to take but its benefits will become apparent the first time you use it.Spend more and get more…a lot more and it will last forever.Treat yourself and enjoy the best beach sand spike/rod holder available.Get catching!

High quality but has problems.
This is the sturdiest-looking sand spike I’ve ever come across. The metal components are made from 1/8” aluminum. The reel protector is made from thick rubber and fits snuggly onto the tube. There are two protrusions on the rubber that lock onto corresponding holes on the front of the tube. There’s also a lip that keeps the protector from sliding down the tube over time (see attached photos). The foot-push bracket and bait box are mounted using stainless steel thumbscrews that go through the center of the tube and secured on the other side using acorn cap nuts. Unfortunately, the upper mounting thumb screw for the bait box is only 12” from the notch on the rubber protector. I own 6 surf rods. One is 9 feet long, and the others are 10 footers. I use 4 of the surf rods for casting plugs and jigs of various sizes. The other two I use for bait fishing with sand spikes. The handles on all 6 surf rods are too long for use with this sand spike when the bait box is mounted. The rod with the shortest handle with a spinning reel installed needs around 22” clearance between the rod seat and the upper bait-box mounting bolt. There’s a measuring ruler etched onto the aluminum tube. But the ruler’s location and gradation marks are not well thought out. The ruler starts with the 1-inch mark instead of zero (see photos). To use the ruler, you have to guess the location of the “0” mark, or start measuring at the 1” mark and subtract one from the result – very inconvenient either way. It would have been more user friendly if the 1” mark was located exactly one inch below the bottom of the rubber protector. Also, the ruler only measures up to 25”. The most popular fish species caught from surf in the U.S. east coast is striped bass. The minimum legal size for striped bass in most states is 28”.In summary, I think this is definitely a very high quality sand spike, and should last a long time. But with a selling price of $69.95, I expected a bit more attention to detail in its design.

Solid build quality. Nice design.
This thing is solid and feels very well built. The slash cut on the the bottom of this thing is no joke and with the wedge for stepping it into the sand should be easy as pie. The two piece, easily disconnectable design is definitely helpful to make it easier to fit in your trunk or store it wherever. The rubber section for holding your spinning reel is a soft enough rubber it won't chew up your gear if you hook into a nice fish. All in all, a very nice holder for beach/surf fishing.

Fantastic rod holder
If you surf fish you won't be disappointed with this rod holder. You can get this with or without the shelf box. The version with the shelf box that I got has a 25" ruler on it. I recommend getting the shelf box as it's nice to hang the pliers on and throw a couple baits in. As you can see in the pics I hang my pliers, hook remover and bait bucket on the shelf plus I toss my fish grabber in the bucket area. My twelve foot pole has a long handle on it so the grove to lock in the reel doesn't work for me but I don't find that to be a necessary thing. The metal construction means you should have this a long time. I like this over the PVC holders I used to use as this one is easier to insert in the sand using the foot push step. Also like that the rubber top helps keep the pole handle from getting scratched up. I have no complaints with this holder.

Very nice surf fishing spike
If you surf fish, then you know what I spike is and I don't have to explain too much. There are things you want, such as enough room for the rod...check...a foot peg so you can use your weight to drive it...check...very rigid...check. I recommend this, but I know there are cheaper options.

Ready for the Next Striper Run
I still recall with a mixture of amusement and awe I felt a moment after set my my surfcasting rod down on the sand and an it almost instantly went blazing out into the water as though it had been hooked by a submarine. This year, when the stripers and blues are running along the beach I go to on the bay down the block from the family summer house, I'll be more ready than ever, and I'll have a place to secure my rod when I need to set it down, thanks to this strong, adjustable aluminum sand spike rod holder. Heck, I might even sit down and relax for a moment, watching for that rod tip to start bouncing, then listen to the line rip off the reel a moment before picking up the rod, knowing its not going anywhere without me.Easy to assemble, disassemble and use, and it's even got a bait box platform for my squid and shiners.
