desertcart.com: The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present: 9781324094098: McCartney, Paul, Muldoon, Paul, Muldoon, Paul: Books Review: A Wonderful Book for Music Lovers - I have always been a huge fan of Paul McCartney and his music, so I was very excited to get this book as a gift. The book is a collection of 154 of his songs, from his early days with the Beatles to his recent solo albums, with his own commentary on each song. He tells the stories behind the songs, how he came up with the lyrics and melodies, what inspired him, and what they mean to him. The book is edited by a poet, Paul Muldoon, who also interviewed McCartney over five years and added some insights and analysis. The book is full of beautiful photos, paintings, and handwritten notes from McCartney's archives, which make it even more special. The paperback edition of the book has seven more songs than the hardcover edition, which are: "All My Loving", "Blackbird", "Eleanor Rigby", "Hey Jude", "Let It Be", "Penny Lane", and "Yesterday". These are some of my favorite songs, and I loved reading McCartney's commentary on them. He reveals some fascinating facts and anecdotes, such as how "All My Loving" was based on a letter he wrote to his girlfriend, how "Blackbird" was a symbol of the civil rights movement, and how "Yesterday" was originally called "Scrambled Eggs". I really enjoyed reading this book, and I learned a lot about Paul McCartney and his music. It is a rare chance to get into the mind of one of the greatest songwriters of all time, and to appreciate his amazing talent and creativity. The book is also very inspiring, as it shows how McCartney has kept his passion and curiosity for music alive for over 60 years. The book is not just a book of songs, but a book of life and art. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves music, especially Paul McCartney's music. Review: recommend - READ IT STRAIGHT THROUGH GREAT BOOK

Unique way to tell his stories through his song lyrics
A refreshing take on the many stories from Sir Paul's life before, during and after The Beatles. We stated in his notes that he doesn't want to spend the inordinate amount of time to write an actual autobiography, instead telling many of his stories via the songs/lyrics he wrote. The results are still very insightful and very interesting. Also getting the real skinny on how and why the songs were written is a must read for any casual or hard core Beatles fan.

Macca the Magnificent
What more can you say about a man who’s had endless articles and books written about him? An obvious, masterful lyricist and storyteller, there aren’t many better than the Macca. My holy trinity of pop rock musical influences might be Brian Wilson, Bruce Springsteen, and Paul McCartney. I don’t have time to argue whether or not Maxwell’s Silver Hammer is an objectively “good” song, so just buy the book and reexamine the script for yourself. 5 stars.

Mention of the who in writing a nasty song , which inspired the Manson clan . Pete couldn't recall what nasty song that was . Anyway anyhow anywhere is a great song might be around the same time or earlier . Big who fan , ya want nasty feedback maniac drumming . End of the song is pretty nasty . Book seems to skip a lot of what was happening . You got herman hermit Moody blues stones Hendrix . The who . Wish the book was by album save time .

Fantastic book - both content and format
I'm a songwriter, so purchased this because I love to hear great writers talk about the context for writing a particular song. This did not disappoint! I love that the write-ups are brief and organized alphabetically by song rather than sprinkled throughout a book about his songwriting experience generally. I'm not even particularly a Beatles or McCartney fan, but have respect for him as a writer because he has such an original style. This book really checks all the boxes for me.

RIP John
