Zoom R8 8 Track SD Card Recorder Interface and Controller

This is an amazing machine it's fantastic if you come up with an idea no matter where you are you can record it in high qualityThe more I use this the more features I find , it seems a bit daunting at first as if you're overwhelmed but it has a brilliant instruction manual and there's an awful lot of YouTube videos on how to use. The Mackie controls are great a very light machine 4 batteries double As or works off the USB battery lasts a good few hours I use rechargeable. The quality and the versatility of this machine astounds me of course you can do all of this on your computer but using a mouse does not compare to having real faders and real buttons they put everything into this machine once you grasp the whole concept which is a bit of a steep learning curve you will be delighted you bought this I am. On a personal note I do most of my recording in my work room usually when I finish a song I have to call my wife up to have a listen ,this I can just pick up and bring it to her, if you mistakenly delete or over right a track you can actually go back four or five recordings to find the one you deleted

This machine is a brilliant resource for overdub-style recording (i.e. 1 or 2 tracks at a time).It contains dozens of preset drum patterns for you to play along to.Before even reading the manual I was up and running, laying down a song in under 10 minutes.Not all of the controls are simple however and things like sequence-editing require a little bit of research to get right.Each track is recorded separately in a WAV file which means that you could record a whole bunch of WAVs and then rearrange them on the DAW software. You can assign any filename to a track so you could potentially record hundreds of WAVs within a project. Stereo WAVs are also possible.Cubase LE DAW software is included but I have misplaced the DVD (I bought this back in November) so haven't used it yet.The manual is self-referencing so you need to hop about to find the information you need but this isn't a big problem as it's a physical booklet.One obvious limitation is that only two inputs may be used at a time which means that live recordings would have to be mixed down to a single stereo source or captured via external mics or the inbuilt microphones.If this only had the drum machine and recording capability then I would be ecstatic. As it is this can be used as a sequencer, master-mixer, input controller and instrument to usb interface. I'm sure I'll get more out of this as time goes by.Highly recommended for the price.

I have not had the Zoom R8 for very long but so far i am very very impressed with it. I bought it to record audio to a multitrack recorder rather than a pc. The unit is very simple to use for recording. There are number of features that i think is very good:1. The autosave on power down2. The mastering effects are very good and give a lot of choice (presets) and produce good results although i find that the dual mic options for compression also give good compression results.3. The overall sound quality is good and captures the recording accurately. I have a lot of synths and it is quite demanding to record these.4. Using the menus is quite straight forward. I wont probably use the sampler or drum tracks much as i have all of this in the synths i have. It took a short while to find the stereo track settings required but the manual explained the requirements.5. There is a way of getting midi clock from the Zoom R8 or R24 (not R16!).... If you purchase the Soundbite Micro Sampler/Midi Clock Analyser (available here at Amazon) and use this from the headphone out with the metronome set to output from the headphone socket then the Soundbite will convert this to Midi Clock perfectly ok. It works really well.6. The access of the R8 WAV files direct to the PC with a USB cable makes life easier.The Zoom R8 represents great value for money, concidering it has resampling time stretch, multi-effects, 24 bit recording,The only think the faders feels a bit cheap and are a bit rough but ok hence 4/5.The price from Amazon is the best in the UK by some margin and the delivery was prompt and on time.

Das Gerät hat ein einfaches Problem...Es schwankt in der Qualität in Sachen Klang..Ich habe nicht raus bekommen an was das liegt...Heute klingt es gut, morgen weniger gut...Bei anderen Geräten kenne ich das nicht, nur an diesem..Digital halt *Wer auf Qualität Sound wert legt sollte das vorhergehende Modell benutzen ...Auf US Seiten findet man viel Kritiken zu diesem die das vorhergehende Modell auch hatten.Warum dieses Gerät ab und zu weniger gut klingt, Wir wissen es alle nicht, auf US findet man mehr zu diesem Thema..Wobei das ab 48 Khz (über PC ) nicht mehr der Fall wie es scheint.(dann steht aber die Effekt Sektion nicht mehr zu Verfügung)Ist halt wirklich nur im 44khz Modus ..(geht bis 96 aber da geht auch eine 8Kern CPU mit 4 Ghz dann in diese Knie oder das Board halt)Wer damit leben kann , der Rest des Gerätes ist einfach ein Traum für diesen Preis vor allem...Die Effekt Sektion , in Sachen Mikrophone durchaus brauchbare Sachen dabei , erstaunte mich was zum Teil was das Gerät da leistet(bei Kondensator Mikrophonen jedenfalls) Gitarren Effekte aber sind eher Spielereien, nicht ernsthaft zu gebrauchen.. Phantom Speisung alles ok.. Eingebaute Micros sind ok. (die vom Nokia 808 holt es nicht ein, die anderer Handys aber klar)Was mich immer wieder ärgert wenn Effekte auf beide Inputs fest verdrahtet sind.. ( einige sind auch einstellbar getrennt ) Keine Ahnung warum das nicht für alle Effekt gilt.Aus Mono Signalen Stereo zu produzieren (Gitarre zb) schafft Er (klingt dann richtig gut halt auch), aber nicht nachvollziehbar nach welchen Kriterien das funktioniert , funktioniert bei einigen Effekten bei anderen weniger.(wobei die Eingänge aber getrennt platziert werden können , auch ohne PC )Der eingebaute Sampler aber ist echt eine Wucht, der Sound ist perfekt wenn dieser mit richtigen Daten gefüttert wird natürlich nur ;)Zum einarbeiten generell in diese Materie , gibt es kaum was besseres...Zum Lernen geniales Teil, sicher auch ein Kneipenauftritt sicherlich machbar mit dem Teil und man das überlebt auch **.Oder unterwegs als Mobiles Recording Studio zum Ideen festhalten unterwegs auch genial..Mechanik ist ziemlich Robust, hat mich angenehm erstaunt...Regler nicht mit Reinigungs Sprays säubern, das funktioniert da nicht, eher das Gegenteil (nur ausblasen mit Druckluft zb)Als DAW Steuergerät für FL Studio auch sehr gut und funktioniert zuverlässig (da aber Midi aufpassen Input/ Output) sonst stürzt das Ding immer ab ;)Im Betrieb unter MS System Software (bei AMD zumindest) nervt und stört die Energiesparfunktion. Unter Linux läuft das einfach besser, aber die Software Hersteller kommen nicht aus dem Knick, leider.Als USB Soundkarte auch sehr gute Qualität, Lob dafür. Am PC generell, mit einiger Software gibt es Probleme.... Alle Regler auf Null und doch kommen Signale ab und durch, wobei die Ursachen aber nicht bekannt sind. Nicht nachvollziehbar was die Ursachen angeht.Nicht Dramatisches aber es nervt..Kopfhörer Ausgang ist ziemlich linear, finde Ich auch gut und praktisch.Und doch, Ich möchte dieses Gerät nicht mehr missen, diese Menge an Funktionen an so einem kleinen Gerät ,das erleichtert vieles..Zum Ernsthaften Arbeiten abseits von DAW aber ist es weniger geeignet meiner Meinung nach.Aber als DAW Kontroller echt praktisch, habe mich daran gewöhnt .Den Punkt Abzug gibt es für die Unklarheiten ; an diesem Gerät. Und das geht eben nicht nur mir so..Deutsche gedruckte Gebrauchsanleitung liegt bei, das muss ich echt lobend erwähnen, das findet man nicht mehr so oft heute ;)Nachtrag...das Teil geht heute noch und ja, Ich habe mir eine Akustik Epiphone gekauft mit Shadow Abnehmern (also 2 Audioausgänge)Und nutzte das Teil als Vorverstärker dazu, (über die 2 Audio Eingänge) und da macht Sich die Effekt -Sektion nun bezahlt, was das R8 (über Audio Ausgang) an Sound zu meiner DAW schickt,( Behringer 1616) war mir neu in Sachen Qualität ..Ich kenne nichts besseres für Akustikgitarren :-) Die Zoom Wandler ist echt gut... Lob..

Ideal für Musiker, die Instrumente spielen. Dait kommt man komplett ohne DAW aus. Idealer Partner dafür ist der Trio+ Bandcreator, weil der zu einer Harmoniefolge (Gitarre, Ukulele usw) dierekt eine Drumspur und eine Bassspur liefert. Workflow: Mit dem Trio+ ein Intro, ein Outtro, eine Strophe, einen Refrain und einen Break in kürzester Zeit produzieren, das zu eine beliebigen Squenz zusammenfassen und das mit dem R8 aufnehmen um dann weitere Spuren hinzuzufügenn ist schon klasse und sehr flexibel.Die Aufnahmequalität ist ausrechend. Kleines Manko: Die internen Efekte sind nur mit 44,1 kHz nutzbar. Ich habe genug externe deshalb stört es mich nicht.Updates folgen wenn nötig.
