Cute story, but a little disappointed
Reviews were high for this book, but I was a little disappointed. Story line features a student who thinks his teacher is a monster for not letting him goof off - and he pictures her that way (I thought comments like "move it or lose it" were inappropriate for a teacher to use). When he meets her by chance at a park, her appearance changes as he gets to know her better. Back in school, she starts to resemble a monster again when she won't allow him to goof off. This really is a cute idea, but it left me feeling like an opportunity was missed.

Breaking down walls and smashing the generation gap with a chuckle and a smile - love love love this story!
Don't miss this one! So much going on in this story - a lesson for everyone young and old about not judging a book by its cover, or a teacher for that matter! The illustrations are priceless... watch them closely for there is a lesson in how they morph as the child begins to take down his preconceived notions of his teacher and to just get to know her. I really loved this story, and so did the kids I read it to, ages 5-10.

DELIGHTFUL book!
Our kinder and first grade kids adored this book. The illustrations are delightful and the message is lovely, especially for the first weeks of school. Getting to know people, even those we view as terrible, is the best way to gain understanding. I have probably read this book aloud 15 times since we received it!!

My children love this book at circle time
My children love this book at circle time. I change it up and switch out my name for Ms Kirby and they giggle even more. A teacher is compared to a monster for not letting a boy throw paper airplanes but when they see each other on a weekend outside of school their relationship changes for the better. It's super cute and the kids enjoy the comparisons. Add some different voices and some drama and your baby will be more than entertained.

We always enjoy the illustrations of Peter Brown's books
We always enjoy the illustrations of Peter Brown's books, they're captivating and fun. 7 y/o really likes this story and enjoys reading it to us as well as being read to. It's a fun way to show that teachers are people outside of school and maybe not always so scary.

THIS IS MAGIC WITH MY KID
Great topic for discussion, to rethink what we know from people; a deep book! REALLYYYYYY connects with kids as young as 3 years old. A magical hit at my home. They always grab it, especially the 3 years old, almost every single day, for over 2-3 months. And you don't even have to tell the story. The book illustrations do the work for you in a marvellous way. Kuddos to the author and illustrator; I am in awe of you both!

We had great fun predicting what would happen next
Children adored this book, especially when Miss Kirby began to turn less monster-ish. We had great fun predicting what would happen next, or how her appearance would alter in the next picture.Great book for showing that teachers are actually humans after all, and perceptions can be altered when you get to know someone.
