Foscam FI9831P HD Wireless Camera - White

This is an interesting little PTZ camera which has some advantages but one huge disadvantage.It took a bit of messing around to setup - You have to download the latest firmware from the Foscam website, and you have to upload certain drivers in a certain order to get it up to date.After finally getting the IP Cameras firmware up to date, you can now access their cloud recording service which will backup your video and audio to the cloud. At present it costs £39.99 for a 7 day backup for a year and £99.99 for a 30 day backup for a year. This is a little expensive and you can get a FREE 3 day backup from Angelam which is well worth doing.You can also record to an SD card but it's not really worth it for the reason below in the CONS sectionAlso be aware that if you are using WINDOWS 10 that you will need to use the 32bit version of Internet Explorer to get full functionality of the cameras web client. Firefox and Google Chrome both are supported with plugins, but I have found that certain features don't work or the browser crashes.PROSGood build quality compared to some cheaper Chinese Brands that can be found on AmazonNice long power cableGreat Picture at 720pCONS- You cannot access the recordings from your SD card from the Iphone app! This pretty much makes the whole thing useless unless you subscribe to their cloud service! Other IP cameras you can access direct from the Iphone app (E.g. Maisi). So unless you plan to take your laptop with you everywhere or pay for their subscription service then don't bother!!!!

Had this camera in use for a couple of weeks now and it’s almost been faultless. I say “almost “because I do have the odd disconnect but this is probably down to the larger bandwidth this camera requires and the camera is at the limits of my home wifi range so no mark downs for this as far as the camera is concerned.Daytime viewing is good with my camera behind glass looking into the front garden but even though HD I can only read car numbers plates at about 15 metres but much better than the Foscam SD camera that this replaces and now the trees across the road are green and not a washed out grey.Being behind glass I can’t use the IR lights but this camera is very good with low LUX and I can see perfectly well under street lighting even though the light has many darken areas that this camera can see into however, and there’s always a downside, the picture can be very grainy under these conditions but I can still pick out what the cats and foxes are up to in the street and I can’t complain with a camera at this price. On the matter of the grain I’ve an external Foscam in the back garden that can be used and is used with its built in IR lights and there is no grain at all so maybe the grain on this camera could be down to the lack of any filters in the camera because of the way I’m using it, just a thought.No real problems setting things up but this is about the sixth IP camera I’ve set up over the past two years so I’m becoming a dab hand at it.Just another thought about the extra cost of buying the “P” version and I agree with other posts on the US site that it’s not really worth paying the extra for the P version as I don’t think it really makes it easier to set up but then others may disagree.

I bought this with some reservation as read good and bad reviews.The initial mobile set up was very straight forward and I had the cameras up and running in minutes, to make detailed and recording changes I needed to download the IP Cam software from Foscam, but again, this was fine and gave a fairly good user interface (UI), I managed to get the options I required running over the next couple of visits.From outside my network, using the Foscam app, the performance is mixed, I can get very good and bad, but I know this is the app, because I have a separate synogy app and there is no issues at. (You will probably need to set up port forwarding to make this reliable, Foscam have a handy guides for this.)Warning: If you want to run these cameras on Wifi at HD quality, you will need a good Wifi router with capacity or these will sloooooooooow down your connection or cut out, tried with a power-line network plug and this works fine until overheated and cut out.The overall review good, easy for novices and lots to keep the techies interested, a bit more refining and would get 5 starsI will test over the next few weeks and update.

The camera seems good quality, nice picture. But as far as I can see you cannot configure it properly without installing archaic obsolete browser plugins, which I failed to do. You should really be able to set the camera up properly via a https login to the camera's IP address (I can still do this on an EyeSpy247f even though EyeSpy247's website seems to have vanished). I have returned this camera.

Not at all a "plug n play" cam. 10 months passed and I still cannot get it linked!!! On-line support is hilarious waiting, 55 minutes of queue waiting. Being an international buyer can't make an hour international call. Bought it for my infant kid surveillance. Followed all the steps as mentioned in manual but nothing...........!!! It never connected properly. Wasted 90 pounds!!!

Use it only to send e-mails when movement is detected. Works well for that and doesn't send e-mails at sunrise/sunset. Previous version sent few emails at dawn and dusk.A bit difficult to set up though.

Good product for the price. Good picture quality.Zoom facility not very good and Wi Fi LED indicator is always on and blinking, hence 4 stars.
