SUMMARY: The enclosure worked straight out of the box. When plugged into my PC the unit worked straight away with a blue LED indicating activity and connection. When plugged in for the first time the unit allowed me to use my favourite HDD management app to access the SSD and format and set it up for use. In my view the case is of good quality and made to a standard compatibly for housing SSDs. This enclosure provides a hand sized unit which can be handled and picked up and put down after use without worrying about damage to the SSD or the SATA socket on the end of a flying lead VALUE: This is exceptional good value and I will most probably purchase again. In my view the price point of this enclosure is compatible with the price of the SSDs it will house. With some SSD's now in the tens of pounds this case could be 25% the cost of some of the lower capacity SSD's. I would not want to spend more - paying more than 10% of the cost of the SSD for a housing is not good economics.MY NEED: I had a SSD taken from a PC which I wanted to make use off. This enclosure means that I have converted my naked SSD into a useful USB 3 external storage unit. PACKAGING: The unit came packed in a smart cardboard box and wrapped in white plastic bags giving the impression of a premium product CONSTRUCTION I have bought UGREEN kit before and always found it to be well made and of good quality. This is no exception. The enclosure is plastic but for the price paid (just under £10) I expected nothing else. When assembled the case feels solid and the slide on lid firmly fixed. Indeed it is not easy to remove the lid. You need to push and slide firmly so there is no chance that it will fall off. The cable and USB plugs are up to the quality expected at this price point. Some reviewers have commented that the case is "cheap" plastic, the lid loose, and the case not suitable for expensive SSDs. BUT with SSD's now in the tens of pounds it is likely that this case could be 25% the cost of some of the lower capacity SSD's it is housing. In my view the case is more than compatibly priced and of a make quality to house an SSD – I would not want to spend more - paying more than 10% of the cost of the SSD for a case to house the SSD is not good economics. If you are doing that one must question why the cost of the SSD housing is such a large proportion of the total cost. USE: The enclosure worked straight out of the box. The slide on lid required some firm pressure to remove which was good but the SSD was an easy push fit onto the connector. When inserted the SSD was held firmly and did not move around. When plugged into my PC the unit worked straight away with a blue LED indicating activity and connection. BE WARNED: The unit worked out of the box with no problem BUT I did need to set up the SSD by using my favourite HDD manager app to give it a drive letter. Until I did this Windows was not able to see the SSD. BUT THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE CASE. This is a normal issue with any HDD or SSD. If it hasn't been given a drive letter and correctly formatted it will not be seen by Windows. So if your SSD is not seen by Windows check if it is correctly formatted and labelled and fix that first. The case worked perfectly allowing me to access the SSD with my HDD manager app. ADVANTAGE: It is possible to purchase USB lead with an attached SATA socket which can be plugged onto an SSD. I already have one of these and it is useful for quickly looking at the contents or formatting and SSD. BUT such leads are not really usable when you want to use the SSD repeatedly and everyday. This enclosure provides a hand sized unit which can be handled and picked up and put down after used without worrying about damage to the SSD or the SATA socket on the end of a flying lead

Best SSD/HDD caddy I’ve ever bought at such good value too, really smart looking disc caddy well made the finish is brilliant my older 1TB HDD slid in precisely the cover also fitted smoothly and the blue LED indicator just finishes everything off nicely. I was so impressed I immediately bought two more at the same price.

Bought 2 of these as I wanted to use them for a couple of 2.5 inch SATA SSD drives I had lying around so they could be put to extra storage use. Out of the box the enclosures worked fine with transfer speeds around 200 mb per second which is fast enough for what I needed and around average for my USB 3 Gen 1 ports. The units looks good with a blue LED to show drive activity. Win 11 identifies the drive correctly as an SSD unit - not all competitors can do this and can see the disks as "Hard Disk Drives" which leads to problems with disk optimisation. Some folk comment that the build is flimsy and may not stand up to hard use over time and they may have a point, but mine will remain at home with light archive use so I expect a good life span. The spec says they go to sleep after 3 minutes, but there's no way to tell if this is happening or not. Finally, I like the built in foam buffers on the insides of the enclosures that keeps the drive secure inside, I found it best to slide the drive in from the back and gently push them into the connectors for a good fit. What a great buy, I can't find fault.

Works perfectly with my SSD and offers fast transfer speeds. The build quality feels sturdy and installation was super easy. Great value for the price.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. It works and I've been using it but it will not play nice with my usb3.0 slot on my pc. Looking online I can see that this issue has been reported before but it's a little annoying to say the least. Other than that it's a good drive build quality is great and the wire is not to short and seems sturdy.

Review at the time of delivery: Build Quality: Looks sturdy and durable, and the padding on the sides is great for providing support to the drive from shocks. Connectivity: USB C would have been a better interface to replace many cables, but the provided A to B cable does justice. Speeds: I am using an 8 year old HDD in the encasing and I am getting close to 140 MB/s sequential read and write. Check the image for testing done using Crystal Disk Mark. Speed in my case is limited by my HDD which is supposed to deliver 140MB/s, so the interfacing electronics aren't the limiting factor. Heating: Did not heat much beyond 33 degrees in my short term use. Long term checks needed. Ease of Use: direct plug and play, no software or explicit driver installation required. In my little time using this casing, it seems to be working good. Since the limiting factor here is my drive, I can't test the full speeds of the case. But I think at this price range, it is a good value for money. Great protection from shocks, sturdy and drable material and great speeds. Recommended over other cheaper versions that could potentially damage disks.

Wer ein günstiges, aber stabiles Gehäuse für seine 2,5 Zoll HDD oder SSD sucht, ist hier genau richtig. Die Verarbeitung ist sauber, nichts klappert. Besonders gut gefällt mir, dass im Inneren kleine Schaumstoff-Pads sind, damit auch flachere 7mm Platten nicht hin- und herrutschen. Die Verbindung zum PC wurde sofort erkannt (Plug & Play), keine Treiberinstallation nötig. Preislich kann sich das ebenso sehen lassen - unter 9€. 5 Sterne verdient!
