As a standard Bluetooth speaker it’s actually quite impressive….I wanted it to use under my pillow as it was recommended as one..I have a b & o speaker that is awesome but it’s a bit bulky for me to use under my pillows…I’m a baha user and at night when they’re off I’d like to watch tv or listen to music whilst not having my neighbours thinking I’m having a party!!if it was possible to adjust the equalising on this speaker I think it would be great for what I needed it for….

I've been searching for the perfect pillow speaker for many years, and I think this is it. It's slim enough not to be significantly awkward under a medium or thick pillow (there's no "Princess And The Pea" problem, no crick in my neck). It's wide enough to have a speaker with good dynamic range (bear in mind this gets muffled by the pillow anyway; but compared to many bass-focussed speakers, it's great for speech and drama). The volume can go down to very quiet but still audible. The battery life can easily do a whole night, two or maybe more (it seems to have a longer life than the stated 12 hours, but that may be because I use it at very quiet volume). It has both Bluetooth and a 3.5mm stereo aux input. It converts stereo to true mono (it doesn't just output only one side). It doesn't get hot under a thick pillow. The Bluetooth connection (and reconnection) is very reliable.When used as a normal speaker, it can be loud enough to fill a small room without clipping, and it slips into a laptop bag or briefcase very nicely. As a companion to a laptop in hotels and smaller meeting rooms, it's superb.Downsides? The aux connector seemed a bit hit-and-miss on mine, with not much room for the jack, although switching to a different cable with a narrower jack sleeve solved most (but not all) of this problem for me. Also the linking of device volume to speaker volume over Bluetooth seemed work sometimes, but not other times. As expected, the bass is quite naturally not as strong as other thicker devices with deeper speakers, although for speech, drama and classical music that's a plus; but if your choice is drum & bass, not so much.Highly recommended as a pillow speaker, also great for slipping into a laptop bag as go-to travel kit.

I am an insomniac and wanted to try listening to quiet music or audio books. I had read other reviews saying this was an ideal pillow speaker so invested in this Philips speaker. I don't like having earbuds or headphones on in bed so thought this would be ideal. (I have a down pillow - no idea if a foam pillow would make for a better sound...)NO GOOD AT ALL. So disappointing. Impossible to hear audio books with the speaker under the pillow. The sound is so muffled as to render it indecipherable. Music is also muffled and bassy.HOWEVER, it is a really good Bluetooth speaker as long as it's nowhere near a pillow!The sound is really clear, balanced, great for any type of music (prog rock in particular for me!) or talk radio/audio books. It also goes loud enough to fill a room with undistorted, clear sound and plenty of bass without being "boomy". It's lightweight and no bigger than my phone.In summary, highly recommended as a great Bluetooth speaker, but as a pillow speaker it's utter pants.

I have to use a really solid memory foam pillow, which means the usual tinny pillow speakers, and my phone under my pillow are completely muffled when falling asleep to podcasts/Radio 4.I have looked for a long time for a flat 'proper' speaker to use and this is the best I've found.That's not to say it's perfect. Being primarily designed for music and not speech under a foam pillow, it's a teeny bit too bassy.The buttons are frankly quite crap, the raised profile of them is a bit sharp on the skin and they require a hard long press to turn on and off. The worst bit of these speakers is the brash and too loud start up and connection noises. Phillips could learn a lot from Anker, whose speakers have a very pleasant start up sound.Despite some irritating cons, overall as a pillow speaker that sounds good and can be used through a very hard memory foam pillow, this is the one to go for. If you're after a more general portable speaker I recommend looking at the Anker range first for this price bracket (£25-£40).

Quick one:Its a decent speaker for the price, it sounds a little better than I thought it would but it won't blow you away too much.It goes plenty loud when it needs to and the distortion isn't too bad. However when turning it down, and this might just be with my phone, it goes from average level to very quiet in volume. I was using it in a small office [think 4 people max] and wanted it quiet-ish but annoyingly it doesn't have that sort of a level, its either too quiet or just a tad too loud. Its a minor quibble though. [EDIT: My phone is a Sony XZ]The recharge cable being a part of the strap is neat and unlike the other review on here I had no issues getting it out and putting it back in.All in all its a good product, perfect for what I want it for: outdoor and indoor speaker to just keep in my bag for whenever.

Good wireless speaker, the buttons are a little hard to press (you need to press down very firmly) but that could just be me. I did buy this as a pillow speaker, but it is a little too loud for this purpose (even on the lowest volume), but I've kept it to use around the house and will take it with me when travelling (the strap also serves as a USB charging cable). I personally think the sound quality is good and generally use it for listening to music whilst working from home.

Generally good speaker, Bluetooth pairing straight forward, good sound even when placed under a cabinet.Easy to move around, great outside but did occasionally drop connection on different devices.
