The perfect holiday smartphone at a sensible price point
My home contents insurance was essentially bought for all the purchases I made from Amazon over the years, yet I hardly ever write reviews. The LG G4 has so far been an impressive device, at such a great price point (September 2015), especially compared to the other companies' latest offerings in rip-off Britain. I felt it deserved some keyboard time.I bought the gold edition, as it was the cheapest, and elected to buy direct from Amazon. It arrived quickly, even with the Supersaver delivery option. I had also bought the Caseology [Envoy Series] red case, which arrived separately later from an independent seller. I would thoroughly recommend the gold edition of this phone with that case, as it matches perfectly. The case offers both great protection, as well as that Iron Man look. Even the in-ear headphones that come with the phone are red. They are basic and not brilliant for sound quality, but perfectly usable. The in-line mic and remote is a bonus. Many reviews here are already very detailed and helpful, so I won't do the traditional full review. Besides, I would suggest you do your smartphone research with loads of Youtube reviews to get a good idea of which phone would be best for your needs. Instead, I will list the main things I was looking for in a smartphone, followed by how the G4 stacks up to each point.1. Great still camera - I come from the Sony Xperia Z2, which is still a perfectly serviceable phone with great battery, waterproof and decent UI, but the camera falls short. As I don't carry a separate DSLR, or even a point-and-shoot, I need the camera to be top notch. Video recording is rare, but a good rear still camera is a must for me. The G4 certainly does not disappoint in this respect. In particular, the manual controls and low light photos (thanks 1.8 aperture, OIS and image processing). The Samsung galaxy S6 was on my short-list, but it did not fulfil my next criterion...2. Removable battery - Even though my day job does not allow for much phone use and charging would be an option, I needed an excellent battery life or removable battery for those times when I am travelling. Even with the Z2, I often found I needed a portable charger with me to get me through a day of intensive use (music, gaming, camera, social media and net browsing with the pretence of work). I bought an extra battery kit, which contains portable charger (not fast charging), battery and plastic case. So far the battery life has been decent enough for day-to-day use, but the spare battery will definitely be needed for those days of travelling. The S6 has a great camera, but the small built-in battery is a deal-breaker for me. LG must be applauded for sticking to the good old Android usability selling point of removable battery. The upcoming LG V10 still has it, but will undoubtedly come with the standard wallet-emptying flagship price...3. Does not break the bank - Saving up for a mortgage, it was difficult enough to argue myself over for an upgrade from my Z2, after only a year and a half, but with some upcoming cheap holidays, it was sorely needed. Flagships these days are obscenely priced. Luckily for us consumers, LGs drop in price fairly quickly, and therefore at today's price, I would say it is the VW Golf of the smartphone world. A premium product at a midrange price. In conclusion, I would say the G4 is pretty much the perfect (reasonably) affordable smartphone for the frequent traveller and makes an absolutely brilliant holiday phone. Yes, the waterproofing would be a bonus, and a fingerprint reader would have been nice, but neither of those are deal-breakers for me. The CPU and GPU are nothing to shout home about, but plenty fast enough to run any app. For the time being, the arms race of faster and faster chips is no more than an exercise of bragging rights for manufacturers and the benchmark-obsessed. Even LG's infamous slow software updates have recently taken a turn for the better. With the promise of Google Marshmallow update at the beginning of next year, it ensures the G4 will not be rendered obsolete, even with the next inevitable wave of new smartphones. As LG says, Life's Good. :)

Has it All !
This phone really is the ultimate phone of 2015 ! It is a rare specie in having expandable storage as well as removable battery and back, both being the main reason why I bought this over the S6. I bought the brown leather back version, however already after a day or two it is starting to show slight marks and wear on the back, which is why I've switched over to the free plastic back that is included in the box when you purchase the leather version !Overall this phone is a beast ! Although on paper it "only" has a Snapdragon 808 and Hexa-Core processor as opposed to the 810 chip with Octa-Core, it flies through day-to-day tasks as well as heavy usage easily. It wont set any benchmark records, but benchmarks do not necessarily reflect the performance. It will take a day or two to get used to the power and volume buttons being on the back, but once you have it feels very natural and comfortable. As for the camera... It is simply Amazing ! The results are absolutely stunning whether indoors or outdoors, and allow for great quick-shots with its fast shutter. The laser auto focus makes a noticeable difference too.If you are thinking about buying this phone, you really cannot go wrong ! It looks great, has a unique build and feel, fantastic camera, and most importantly expandable storage and removable battery ! (forgot to mention that the battery life is pretty good too)

Great phone - but can brick at any moment due to the dreaded 'bootloop'
As others have stated, be very wary of this phone due to the bootloop issue. If you're not sure what that is, just search for 'LG G4 Bootloop'; you'll find plenty of information about it.I had mine for 11 months before it bricked itself with no warning due to this issue.Very disappointed in LG for (a) not recalling the product when there is a known issue, (b) not warning users to back up data regularly in case they fall victim to the issue, (c) only offering a lengthy repair option instead or replacing or refunding.Having said all that, Amazon customer services were first class at sorting this out for me.

Some issues
The phone shipped really quick but had very poor battery life. They were kind enough to send me new battery as soon as I contacted them but it didn't improve that much. It didn't shipped with original charger. I got travel adapter which has 4V output so fast charging is not an option. Also usb cables go out of the port too easily.

One of the most versatile/best phones on the market (One month in review)
Been waiting a long time for a phone that fits all my requirements and LG knocked it out of the park with the G4.Fast responsive processor - checkHigh Resolution screen - checkGreat camera, photo & video - checkExpandable storage - checkReplaceable battery - checkHighly customisable - checkNot Ridiculously expensive - checkThe only down side is the backward facing speaker is not great for music, but thats what have bluetooth speakers & headphones for = )To me a phone is a long term investment, question is do you really want to spend hundreds more on a phone that has a pitiful amount of storage and once the batteries worn out can't be replaced? Hard to believe that is the standard for most phones on the market today.I was looking for a device that does everything I need, all to the highest standard and without breaking the bank. To me that's why the G4 is the perfect package. Amazing job LG!
