Design issues
Beet juice has been shown to have substantial ergogenic effects in endurance activities, including those at high altitudes. This product definitely has that effect and seems to offer that benefit with the convenience of not having to haul so much liquid.I give it only three stars because of the design. A number of the packets arrived already punctured at the seams and leaking a dust of beet powder. It was hard to tell at first which ones were punctured, but some definitely were less than half full. I took the good ones up on a high altitude climb. Unfortunately, because of how these were filled with air, several more burst at their seams on the climb up due to the change in pressure. This, combined with a little moisture from the ambiance, created a nasty purplish gunk in the plastic bag I had used. Disappointing.Another issue I had was with reconstituting the powder. The packet recommends mixing one packet with four ounces of water. That's basically impossible to do without most of the powder remaining a gooey ball. In 16 oz-32 oz of water it was drinkable but you still got a few chunks when mixed by hand. I imagine if the product was micronized it have been could be reconstituted better. The stuff tastes passable but a little off. Straight beetroot isn't too bad, so I'm not sure why they felt it was necessary to add the funky-sweet taste of the plant-based sweetener stevia.Considering the whole point of powderized beetroot is to provide a convenient method of supplying the stuff on the go, the product has some issues. That said, it's the best thing to have on a climb short of hauling up 4 lbs of beetroot bottles and the only individualized-serving powderized beetroot product I could find at the time.

Can't trust manufacturer
I liked this product so much that I purchased their book, "The Nitric Oxide Solution" to find out more about it. I was shocked to read there that the authors/ manufacturers ( they're one and the same) think that nitrosamines are not a significant health concern. (In order to make this easier to read I'm putting my references at the end. They're short, entertaining and easy to understand.) If that is their position, then they might not be checking for them in their product and probably aren't concerned about any that they find. So we have no way of knowing if they are there and in what amounts. I did feel good taking this product but can't determine if there are any potential dangers associated with it, so I'll stick to unprocessed sources- beets, hawthorn, cocoa, cilantro, lettuce spinach, arugula etc. to support my nitric oxide.Nitrosamines are chemicals that form from nitrates/nitrites under certain conditions.(Nitrates in the beets are what the body ultimately converts to nitric oxide ) They are in processed meats and in cigarette smoke and are considered the most cancer causing chemicals in cigarettes. Nitrosamines cause cancer, and the manufacturer (Neogenis) essentially denies this in their book. So maybe they are in this beetelite neoshot, maybe they are in their neo40 lozenge. Again - the manufacturer couldn't care less. Unusual and surprising things can happen when food is processed. Bottled carrot juice has been found to have significant levels of benzene while fresh carrot juice has none.To learn more about nitrates/nitrites and nitrosamines visit Dr. Gregger's site at nutritionfactsdotorg and watch at least these "are nitrates pollutants or nutrients ?" and "prevention is better than cured meat ". He has some other good videos on nitric oxide there, too. There's also a video about the benzene in carrot juice - I forget the title, but a search for "benzene" will bring it up.I posted a review of the book at Amazon, if you're interested.

Works but not as well as fresh juice and much more expensive
I'm a competitive cyclist who decided to give these a try. I measure my Nitric Oxide levels with test strips. These do raise my Nitric Oxide levels but not as much as real beet juice does. These are so expensive you'd be much better off investing in a juicer. With that being said I'll probably still keep a box of these hanging around because of the convienence factor. When you're in a rush it's nice to just be able to grab one of these packets.

Taste is 4.5 but effectiveness is 5+
Wasn't sure how I would react to this stuff. Seemed to help people but you never really know until you give it a shot (pun intended). First time I used it, it did nothing for me. Almost seemed to make me slower. I just had nothing in the tank that day. Maybe that was because of other influences or maybe my body needed to adapt to it. But since then, it has been nothing short of amazing. I only save it for my long rides/races (due to the price), but I can see a noticeable difference in my stamina and fatigue levels.Taste is different but not too bad. Just drink it like a shot.If you ride or run for 2hrs or more, I would highly recommend.

Seems to work - much better than beet juice
I had tried drinking huge bottles of beet juice. It was hard on the stomach and not appetizing. These taste much better, are concentrated so you get more and have to drink less. Seems to work from my unscientific analysis. They are kind of expensive though, so I wouldn't use them except for races or when you need a performance boost.

Not Worth A Shot
Given the hype about this product within the Spartan community, I was hoping to have found an alternative to a pre workout. Unfortunately, this did nothing for me in regards to endurance or energy; I would have caught a better buzz with a strong cup of coffee. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this to anyone.
