How is the lock on this? Tight? Won’t come loose?

Contrary to the first answer, you will find a buyer posted a problem with the screw lock not remaining engaged. I also find that the the lip, which is covered by the screw lock, is too short; the screw lock was barely past 1 full rotation when it disengaged.The odd thing is that there is plenty of clearance to extend the lip further, for a more secure latch. I would say that this carabiner should not be relied on for climbing. Simpler uses should be fine. I have only one of these carabiners, so I could have a defective example.

Will this carabiner opening allow a 1 1/2" pipe to connect?

The inside width is 2 inches....the opening is an inch and a quarter. The locking barel takes about an eighth of an inch.
